Neither wanted a Conservative nominee, and like lemmings, the primary voters followed their lead, and you see where we are now. We had the best candidate since Reagan, and he was tossed away.
No he couldn't. He couldn't even persuade enough conservatives to vote for him much less moderates. How many votes did he get? The more people heard him the lower his poll numbers got. He was pathetic.
Good speaking skills is just a minimum preprequisite requirement. The candidate has to "reach" people and get them fired up. Thompson's results speaks volumes.
