Smoky bar triggered fatal asthma attack

A woman in her late teens died from an acute asthma attack triggered by secondhand cigarette smoke shortly after arriving at her job as a waitress in a bar in Michigan, researchers reported on Friday.

If she’s enrolled in school (any form) and is financially dependent upon her parents, many insurance companies and federal/state health asistance programs typically covers “dependents” until age 25. I find it hard to belive she was self-sufficient financially working at a bar (unless it was a strip club) IMO.

Did you notice in the original article that the following is in black, bold font for the subtitle?

This article is based upon the researcher’s theory. Yes, that researcher who refuses to identify the girl’s name and used her as the basis for his newly-published journal article. If identified, others in Michigan could possibly produce conflicting evidence based upon her personal behaviors and experiences.

I'm very sad for the young woman's family and friends. It's a terrible loss, even though it was apparently preventable. A lot of deaths are like that ...

My brother was a cop at 19. He went into bars before he could go into bars.

We’ve observed it alot with our oldest this week.

She insists her latest troubles with her car are not her fault but with the car.

The car has been checked and rechecked.

We have had difficulty explaining to her that the problem is most likely with the DRIVER.
As in...on mornings where conditions are good for black ice, one must drive SLOWER.

We’re still working on her.
We’re hoping that making her responsible for damages and increase in insurance premium will make the lesson painful enough it will sink into the cranium better.

This is too serious to just ban smoking and the young lady didn’t decide poorly. Keep in mind that in today’s society no one is responsible for their actions and banning is no longer enough. People need to go to jail and suffer serious consequences, perhaps flogging or whipping. /s

Ah, the joys of a teenage driver. My oldest can get her license in about two months, if she learns to do a 3-point turn. "Turn the wheel clockwise" was apparently a foreign concept; must be all the digital clocks!

It's time to ban "peanuts" ! /sarc Try sending your kid to school with a peanut butter (one of the only things she consistently eats containing protein) sandwich and receiving a letter stating that one child in school is allergic to peanuts therefore no one is allowed to send peanut butter to school. They're going way overboard IMO.

It hasn’t happened here - yet, but I’m waiting.

Those peanut allergies can be very deadly, and I always wind up thinking to myself “if I knew my child could DIE simply by being next to a peanut butter sandwich....would I send him/her off to that school every day?”

I don’t think I would.

You could ban it all, and still - someone somewhere will have some peanut residue on them from breakfast - or won’t realize it is present in some oil on their granola bar.
And that could result in your child’s death?

That child should be home, with the parents carefully monitoring playgroups and other activities.

This is really strange, but I just LOVE that tire smell. If a girl were wearing new rubber tire perfume, I’d have to follow her. It’s a tire pheromone.

There are a couple of pollens that get to me, I'm not sure which ones they are, but they come in Spring and Fall.

Most pollens such as the infamous yellow pine don't bother me at all. They just turn my truck yellow.

I just don't like being in cigarette smoke. I don't want to breathe it and I don't want it on my clothes. But I would never deprive smokers of their rights.

Any parent is reminiscent if they have a child diagnosed at age 2 for not teaching her that asthma can be a life-long disease and that she will need to ensure that she understands the facts, triggers, ramifications and financial implications of said disease. Simply by continuing her education at a Community College would have ensured coverage under most insurance policies or state health services. She worked at a bar, IMO unless it was a strip club she was unable to be fiscally self-sufficient in the first place.
