After about 15 minutes, she had an acute asthma attack and collapsed on the floor. The autopsy clearly indicates she died from asthma, said Rosenman, who would not disclose the womans name or the precise place and time of her death for privacy reasons.
I smell a really bogus story here. Wonder what the ME had to say on the death certificate.

("Brethren, leave us go amongst them." Rev. Capt. Samuel Johnston Clayton - Ward Bond- The Searchers)
"Wonder what the ME had to say on the death certificate."
The article only states "the autopsy clearly indicates she died from asthma" but fails to elaborate.
"Rosenman, who wrote about the case in the American Journal of Industrial Medicine, said 24 U.S. states prohibit smoking in public places such as bars. A number of other states, including Michigan, are considering it. "
There's always a hidden agenda with these types. IMHO he is using this case, without actually providing verifiable proof, to justify "his" research and further line his wallet and promote potential future research posts.

I agree that there is a lot more to this story. The very sudden onset makes no sense.
The autopsy says she died of asthma but there is no way they can prove what brought on the attack. It could have been the cleaning solvent used in the bar, maybe someone had a scent that caused a reaction, stress can be a problem.
My attacks, all those years ago, just sort of came out of nowhere. All the allergy tests and all the medications didn’t help solve the problem. They came when they came, and the disease just went away in my early twenties. Poof, gone !
They will never blame anything but the smoking for this girl’s death. Never.
Off topic-—— I was doing a crossword the other day. The clue was “Socially unacceptable”. I filled in “pariah” but the correct answer was “smoker”. Hmmmmm-—I’m a rebel in my dotage, and I love it.
