I am not a big FDR fan, but the country may well have slipped into revolution, with a Hitler wannabe figure emerging, had not the Government been seen as trying to do something during the Great Depression.

FDR's programs were basically Fascist in nature. I suspect if Mussolini hadn't been Hitler's ally, they would have been the best of friends.

I doubt American's would have been gullible enough back then to elect an American Hitler. I'm not so sure about today's Americans.
