Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee here in Roanoke - Monday Night!
Monday, February 11, 7 pm
Republican Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee will be here in Roanoke this Monday night at 7 pm at the O.Winston Link Museum on Shenandoah Ave. in downtown Roanoke (across from Hotel Roanoke). Everyone is invited!!
Huckabee will do better than McCain in SWVA because of his Baptist credentials and “preaching” voice, but McCain will take Virginia I think because of the retired and ex-military folks living in the state overall.
And another thing...these candidates need to go further west and south to Abigndon, Bristol, Wise, Grundy, and Tazewell if they want to win SWVA votes. Roanoke does NOT represent the entire region.
Yes, but Roanoke has the SW VA media market (newpaper and TV stations) that they need. I believe that is why they only target Roanoke in SW VA....
Now there’s something you don’t see every day. Wise, VA gets a mention on FreeRepublic. Can we get a Big Stone Gap mention as well? How about Pound?
I plan to vote for Huckabee...not because I think he will win in VA but I believe we need to force McCain to consider CONSERVATIVE ideas and having Huckabee do well (even if he does not win) will help conservatives broker a more reasonable McCain....IMHO
Will McCain get 50% is the big story.
Well, the Newspaper there is a lib rag and no one except the faculty at Virginia Tech reads it. Remember when that clown of a columnist published the state database listing CCW permit holders in the paper? As for the media, yeah, Roanoke has a few decent TV stations that serve the local area, but the Bristol stations have far greater reach into the heart of SWVA.
How about Hurley, Haysi, Lebanon, Norton, Appalachia, and Powell Valley, while I’m at it too? :)
We’re waiting patiently in Rural Retreat for a visit.
I live in Salem and we’re picking up the pieces after some pretty strong winds in SWVA yserday - trees down and power out all over the place. Hildebeast canceled last night and Odrama canceled for this morning.
Yes, we FREEPED the Hildebeast...then she canceled due to high wind. Apparently broomsticks cannot land in high wind.
These 2 canceling is a blessing from God!!
Roanoke also has an airport.
Why is he speaking at such a small place? You aren’t going to get too many people into there.
Or Haysi and Clinchco.
Problems is the candidates aren’t going to make more than one stop in SW Va and Roanoke is the population, media and travel hub for the area. Bristol would be a pretty easy place for them to stop, but they certainly aren’t going to head deep into the coalfields.
SW Va is the only place up for grabs. Bill was here Saturday.
Bill Clinton.
Husband of Hillary.
Y’all probably already know this. For decades the last campaign run in Virginia was the far Southwest coalfields. Republicans and Democrats did it.
And it was the location/weekend of the Elizabeth Taylor fried chicken dinner...
Perhaps I have not looked enough, but I cannot seem to find info on what will happen to the delegates won by Mitt Romney. Come convention time, can they change their lot and “vote” for Mike Huckabee instead?
This seems to be the only way that the RINO Express can be derailed.
I don’t see going to Virginia Tech as a whole lot different than going to Roanoke. You can fly in on a small enough plane or you can be there in 40 minutes from the Roanoke airport.
More sororities in Blacksburg.
DUUUUUHHHHH!!!!
True. Although Roanoke does have Roanoke College and Hollins, which is a hotbed of liberal hippie chicks.
I don’t know all the convention rules....but I know all of the 63 delegates from VA are required to vote for the state winner on the FIRST ballot.
If more ballots are needed, they can choose whoever they want.
It did seem rather odd. Hollins would have been a better fit unless Hillary found out.
I know someone who went. The Roanoke Times said only about 1000 showed up but I heard they had an overflow crowd which means 3000+
I got Huckabee’s, Duncan Hunter’s & Jim Pinkerton’s autographs yesterday.
Yeah, it’s too bad really. During his campaign in 1960, JFK visited a coal mine in Pocahontas County WV, and it was a real PR coup.
