Two CBS Journalists Reported Missing in Iraq (And CBS Refuses to report Names)
Fox News Website ^ | 12-Feb-2008 | AP

Posted on 02/12/2008 12:41:27 AM PST by philly-d-kidder

BAGHDAD — Two CBS News journalists were missing in the predominantly Shiite southern city of Basra, the network said Monday. CBS said all efforts were under way to find the journalists, who were not identified by the network. It requested "that others do not speculate on the identities of those involved" until more information was available. Iraqi police said the journalists were taken away Sunday after masked gunmen entered the Sultan Palace Hotel in central Basra. The police spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to media. "CBS News has been in touch with the families and asks that their privacy be respected," the network added in a brief statement from CBS Corp. headquarters in New York. Basra, Iraq's second-largest city, has seen fierce fighting between rival Shiite militias as part of a power struggle in the oil-rich south. The British military turned over responsibility for the province to Iraqis in December, but maintains forces near Basra, about 340 miles southeast of Baghdad. In New York, the Committee to Protect Journalists said it was "deeply concerned for the safety of our colleagues, and hope they are located swiftly and able to resume their important work covering this critical story." CPJ Executive Director Joel Simon said: "Iraq is the most dangerous country in the world for journalists and the deadliest conflict for the press in recent history. Journalists face incalculable risks in order to bring us the news about what is happening on the ground there."

CBS is Missing 2 Journalist which we should Pray for but CBS said......." all efforts were under way to find the journalists, who were not identified by the network. It requested "that others do not speculate on the identities of those involved" until more information was available."

How Come Every Missing Kid ,Runaway, murderers and Kidnappings are are all Covered by CBS with Local CBS Helicopters, sleuth reporting and are offering a deal by the end of the 1st day with the Family to reveal their personal Pain on 60 Minutes. But the Public is supposed to Now respect CBS Privacy??

This is just like Tom Brokaws secretary getting Anthrax in 2001 they wanted everyone to respect NBC privacy while the day before NBC/MSNBC they get an Anthrax exposed Girl out of Bed in Boca Raton Florida and demand as a service to the American people to Know in an interview which she reluctantly gives while in her Bathrobe with her Bunny Slippers at the end of her Driveway! How Intrusive is that!

The Media in the USA really do act like they are above the Law.. Do as I say but not as I do! Last guys with that same attitude were the Communist Poltiboro.

Do Pray for the Missing Journalist...but how will we know who to pray 4 if we don't have their names!

The Lord knows who you're praying for, even if you say something as simple as "those journalist guys". I'm sure the station has a reason, perhaps the families didn't want the names broadcast, the same way some families do when a relative dies in the service or in a work accident. Either way, I'm sure the military knows, and all we can do is hope & pray for the best.

I think it hits home a bit diff when it is family/co workers.

I think people do have a right to keep there anonimity.

I saw a news story on tv the other day and the hero of the story declined to speak to the media..it was the guy (fireman?) who caught the baby 3 stories below in that fire.

I was watching GMA (ABC) and they said they were respecting the heros request for no contact as he told them he was just doing his job.

So I think people do have a choice.

Even with the Paparazzi I noticed on TMZ some play to the paparazzi and others ignore them but with courtesy/a smile and move on.

So it is my opinion that it takes two to tango.

I don’t think we need to know who these journalists are if their families want privacy. I respect them for that.

Hope they come home safely.

Journalists face incalculable risks in order to bring us the news about what is happening on the ground there.

Or more likely CBS is not reporting what is really happening on the ground there because they are united with the terrorists against George W. Bush. And now their close relationship with violent terrorists has sprung up and bit them in the ace.

Don't be alarmed CBS your reporters are just embedded with their troops.

Maybe there is something about their names or their background that could harm them if it was revealed to the kidnappers. Does that give you a clue?

Maybe their families are the ones that don't want us to speculate, so maybe we shouldn't.

How would you like to work for these POS MSM AHs? When you get in trouble you become faceless , with no name, because the "friendly jihadis" have become "not so friendly " contrary to MSM ideoloogy.

This is all abuot NOT defining the Islamofascist enemy.

Thats why we have no names, in case their heads get sliced off. That would coonvert too many Liberals over to the Anti Jihad cause, and Soros would lose his investment.!

Definitely stringers.

Otherwise they’d be called “Two CBS journalists,” not “journalists working for CBS”.

Illogical. Had they not been informed, and CBS did not have some other agenda, then CBS would not have even released this at all until they did inform the families.

If you’re referring to the fire in Germany, it was a German police officer who caught the Turkish baby girl after she was thrown out of the window of a burning building. It was more than a three story fall....either 6 or eight stories, I forget which. The way that German cop can catch, he should have been playing in the Super Bowl!

I’m saying that reporters who go to the war zone from any station put their lives in jeopardy in order to give America news from the location.

I disagree with the CBS’s liberal point of view, as I want to leave Afghanistan/Iraq in victory.

Please, I need to know the worthy cause in my prayer. What side of the Iraq war were the CBS Journalist? Did the CBS Journalist use Iraq reports to influence US domestic politics? Were the CBS Journalist working for the interest of Iran, Syria, Batthists, or al Qaeda? Were the CBS Journalist also Al-Jazeera Journalist? What number of untrue stories did the CBS Journalist promote to undermine the resolve of the US public? Were any US, coalition, or Iraqi soldiers injured or killed due to these CBS Journalist commissions or omissions? The answer to these questions greatly influence what I shall pray to the creator.

And it is outrageously insensitive to do such speculation during the holy week of IED.

Journalists face risks to further their careers, while
slanting the news to defend “This war is lost” appeasers.
