The head of the College of William and Mary, Gene Nichol, has resigned in disgrace. Several readers send along his resignation letter. You’ll recall that he roiled the campus with his decision to hide the cross at the famous school chapel to make it “less faith-specific.” More recently, he hosted a sex workers show on campus while restricting critics who wanted to tape it. Here’s his letter:....
Dear Members of the William & Mary Community: I was informed by the Rector on Sunday, after our Charter Day celebrations, that my contract will not be renewed in July. Appropriately, serving the College in the wake of such a decision is beyond my imagining. Accordingly, I have advised the Rector, and announce today, effective immediately, my resignation as president of the College of William & Mary. I return to the faculty of the school of law to resume teaching and writing.
I have made four decisions, or sets of decisions, during my tenure that have stirred ample controversy. First, as is widely known, I altered the way a Christian cross was displayed in a public facility, on a public university campus, in a chapel used regularly for secular College events — both voluntary and mandatory — in order to help Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, and other religious minorities feel more meaningfully included as members of our broad community. The decision was likely required by any effective notion of separation of church and state. And it was certainly motivated by the desire to extend the College’s welcome more generously to all. Someone / some group is responsible for placing a man like him in this job to begin with.
Heads should roll at a higher level.

In a further move to appear more nondemoinational he was advocated changing the name if the university to William and “Old Whats-her-name”.
Just another exploitative “see how far we can push the envelope in the name of free speech” live “sex as art” show. These universities are suckers for this garbage, and the “artists” are laughing all the way to the bank.

His departure was, unfortunately, delayed by his self absorption, arrogance, and ego.
If the earlier thread is correct, one of the "performers" had a sparkler sticking out of his back door while he sang "patriotic" songs.

This is just a sacraficial annode to distract from the “shadow movers” who hire this deviants but remain concealed.
To be fair, that particular performance was at “The Sex Workers Art Show” which appeared at Duke University.

I have copied and pasted this guy’s letter and will print it out to show to my 14 year old son. My son is studying logic and rhetoric in a classical Christian school and is becoming quite adept at finding inconsistencies etc... This resignation letter is a classic example of convoluted, twisted liberal-speak and will be a good exercise for him and his classmates.
I counted 42 instances of the word “I”. Talk about someone missing the point. He is a public servant nothing more. What a load of navel-gazing drivel.
God help us the day we accept reasoning like this pinhead’s, that chapels are “public facilties” if they are used to host secular events.
