Is this why Sandy Berger needed to destroy those documents? PART II: MEET ERIC S. EDELMAN
FREE REPUBLIC WORLD EXCLUSIVE | Tuesday, February 12, 2008 | FREE REPUBLIC WORLD EXCLUSIVE

Okay, first a little background for Freepers who haven't been following all of these stories.

STORY #1: Coughlin & Islam at the Pentagon

Stephen Coughlin was a Pentagon analyst [in fact the ONLY Pentagon analyst] with a specialization in Koranic & Hadithic formulations of Jihad.

At the urging of one Hasham Islam [also known as "Hesham H Islam"], in the office of Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England, Coughlin was fired in early January of 2008 [or late December of 2007].

After an enormous uproar in the intelligence community, and with the help of Congresswoman Sue Myrick [R-NC], Coughlin was finally set to be re-instated last week, to a new, as yet undisclosed position within the Pentagon.

Now, today, we learn that Hasham [Hesham] Islam has himself been implicated as a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, by the FBI, and has been fired from the Pentagon:

STORY #2: Sibel Edmonds & Marc Grossman

Parallel to the Coughlin/Islam fiasco in the Pentagon has been the bizarre story of the former Turkish language translator for the FBI, Sibel Edmonds, and her allegations of malfeasance in the State Department:

For sale: West’s deadly nuclear secrets
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/middle_east/article3137695.ece?print=yes

FBI denies file exposing nuclear secrets theft
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article3216737.ece?print=yes

Specifically, Edmonds has alleged that Sandy Berger's associate, Marc Grossman [former Ambassador to Turkey], was the ringleader of a plot to channel American nuclear secrets through Turkish intermediaries, and into the hands of the Israelis and the Pakistanis.

In these previous Free Republic World Exclusives, we examined the lengthy connections between Marc Grossman and Sandy Berger, and speculated that perhaps Berger was destroying evidence within the National Archives which might expose this [alleged] Turkish plot:

CONNECTING STORIES #1 & #2

Now let us return to WorldNetDaily's exclusive story from this morning, and the attempt to re-instate Coughlin:

Embattled Muslim aide to leave Pentagon job
http://worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.printable&pageId=56110

...Meanwhile, his rival, Maj. Stephen Coughlin, a leading authority on Islamic war doctrine, may stay in the Pentagon, moving from the office of the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to the office of the secretary of defense. However, sources say a former U.S. ambassador to Turkey is trying to block his new contract...

Pentagon insiders say Eric S. Edelman, undersecretary of defense for policy, has sought to stop the awarding of a new contract to Coughlin. Edelman served as ambassador to Turkey from 2003 to 2005...

And who is this "Eric S Edelman"?

Eric S. Edelman
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_S._Edelman

Eric S. Edelman is the current Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, former U.S. Ambassador to Turkey (2003-2005), former U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Finland (1998-2001), and former Principal Deputy Assistant to the Vice President for National Security Affairs (2001-2003)...

Recall that Grossman was Ambassador to Turkey from 1994 to 1997.

A google search on Eric Edelman & Sandy Berger provides more than 10,000 hits, and a similar search with Grossman provides more than 86,000 hits:

GOOGLE: Eric Edelman Sandy Berger
10,300 hits
http://www.google.com/search?safe=off&q=eric+edelman+sandy+berger

GOOGLE: Eric Edelman Marc Grossman
86,100 hits
http://www.google.com/search?safe=off&q=eric+edelman+marc+grossman

From the very first hit on Edelman and Berger, we learn that they studied with the same professor at Cornell:

The Quiet Americanist
Historian Walter LaFeber, favorite of generations of students, leaves the classroom
by David Dudley
MAY/JUN. 2006 VOLUME 108 NUMBER 6
http://cornell-magazine.cornell.edu/Archive/2006mayjun/features/Feature2.asp

...Among his exstudents are one present and one former national security advisor, Stephen Hadley '69 and Sandy Berger '67, along with a legion of prominent American historians, political theorists, and powerful policy-makers...

Under Secretary of Defense Eric Edelman '72, Assistant Secretary of State Dan Fried '74, and Venezuelan ambassador William Brownfield '74--seem likely as not to disagree with his liberal revisionist take on American history...

We learn from Google Books that there was a close relationship between Berger, Edelman, and Strobe Talbott:

Power and Purpose: U.S. Policy Toward Russia After
by James M. Goldgeier and Michael McFaul
ISBN 0815731744
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=eric+edelman+sandy+berger+goldgeier+mcfaul

Page 257: After the meeting, Talbott suggested the name of Finnish president Martti Ahtisaari for this mission to national security adviser Sandy Berger... For Talbott, an additional advantage was that serving as US ambassador to Finland was his former executive assistant and close confidant, Eric Edelman...

We learn that Edelman & Grossman were both the subject of defense requests for subpoena in the Libby/Plame affair:

Motions To Quash
April 19, 2006
http://justoneminute.typepad.com/main/2006/04/motions_to_quas.html

...From the TIME and Judith Miller subpoenas themselves, we find this to be of interest - the defense wants information on contacts between reporters and "Ari Fleischer, Marc Grossman, Eric Edelman, Bob Grenier, Cathy Martin, Joseph Wilson, George Tenet, and Bill Harlow"...

Over and over and over again we see these names occuring with one another:

...This book is the result of a decade’s involvement in the intellectual and political battle over NATO enlargement. I would like to thank Jim Thomson at RAND for encouraging me to pursue my initial ideas on NATO enlargement and modernization in the early 1990s. One of RAND’s many strengths is its analytical teamwork. I owe a great debt to Richard Kugler and Steve Larrabee for their personal friendship and intellectual collaboration. A special word of thanks also goes to Vice Admiral Ulrich Weisser. As a guest scholar at RAND and subsequent top aide to German Defense Minister Volker Ruehe, he contributed in many ways to RAND’s early work on these issues. Our work together in and outside of government is a testimony to the spirit of the trans-Atlantic relationship. It was an honor to serve my country under President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright from 1997 to 2000. I would like to thank Strobe Talbott and Jim Steinberg for helping to bring me into the State Department. For three years I had the opportunity to work with some of the best and the brightest diplomats the United States has: Eric Edelman, Dan Fried, Marc Grossman, Victoria Nuland, E. Anthony Wayne and Sandy Vershbow...

Note that Gordon England is now Eric Edelman's "sponsor" at the Pentagon:

Bush nominates England, Edelman as Pentagon No. 2, 3 officials
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0WDQ/is_2005_April_4/ai_n13506541 Asian Political News, April 4, 2005
WASHINGTON, March 31 Kyodo

U.S. President George W. Bush announced the nomination Thursday of Navy Secretary Gordon England as deputy defense secretary replacing Paul Wolfowitz, who will become World Bank president on June 1.

Bush also picked U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Eric Edelman as defense undersecretary for policy succeeding Douglas Feith, who will leave the administration this summer.

And note how often Gordon England is in the news with the nation of Turkey:

Gordon England in line for top US defense spot
ANKARA - Turkish Daily News
Saturday, April 2, 2005
http://www.turkishdailynews.com.tr/article.php?enewsid=9831

Now that the head of the World Bank is officially Paul Wolfowitz, after the bank unanimously approved him as its new president on Thursday despite reservations regarding his role in the Bush administration vis-à-vis the war in Iraq, U.S. President George W. Bush intends to nominate Secretary of the Navy Gordon England for the newly vacant position of U.S. deputy secretary of defense, according to a White House press release.

England is considered less “ideological” than Wolfowitz. He worked in an executive capacity with General Dynamics Corp. and served as secretary of the navy for two years before being assigned deputy secretary of the department of homeland security in 2001. Following a stint in that position, England returned to his post as secretary of the navy. Another widely discussed potential nomination in the news is Eric Edelman as undersecretary of defense for policy. Edelman is currently serving as the U.S. ambassador to Turkey.

Finally, in a rather bizarre coincidence [or maybe a-not-so-ironic twist], on April 1, 2005, the Los Angeles Times reporter, John Hendren, filed stories on both the misdemeanor plea by Sandy Berger and the promotion of Gordon England & Eric Edelman in the Pentagon:

Is it possible that, on or about April 1, 2005, the Bush Adminstration entered into an agreement with Sandy Berger to accept a plea down to misdemeanor charges in exchange for the promotion of Eric Edelman & Gordon England within the Pentagon?

Could Berger have threatened to expose the Turkish nuclear espionage?

Folks, there's something rotten in our Turkish policy: Sandy Berger, Marc Grossman, Eric Edelman, and Gordon England are up to no good, and someone needs to get to the bottom of this mess.

At that point, I had to get out my tin foil and bail out.

Well go back and read the story again.

Edelman and Berger were both inducted into the CFR in the Class of 1992.

Edelman is a former Ambassador to Turkey who is now leading the campaign against Jihad-specialist Stephen Coughlin in the Pentagon.

Edelman was promoted to the Pentagon at almost exactly the same time that Berger was pleading down to a misdemeanor.

Berger & Edelman studied under the same history professor at Cornell.

Berger & Edelman intersect in Strobe Talbott.

Just on and on and on: This is a den of thieves.

And Sibel Edmonds is alleging that what they are stealing are our nuclear secrets.

plot to channel American nuclear secrets through Turkish intermediaries, and into the hands of the Israelis and the Pakistanis.

Something incongruous about this. Pakistan AND Israel? Strange. Also, the assemblage of articles and links is a bit confusing -- an awful of information overload for me. I'll have to come back numerous times (if it keeps me coming back).

A clintonoid stench is rising from this heating pile of dung ... imagine what these clintonoid bastards will be able to do to an Obama presidency! What it does to the nation is of no concern to the treasonous clintonoids, so just imagine how much horror could be instigated in order to vault the Rodham-rodent into the power position over the ‘mistakenly elected’ Obama!
