McCain Camp Touts Ollie North Endorsement

Updated 2:47 p.m.

By Juliet Eilperin and Rena Kirsch

One of the key figures in the Iran-Contra scandal is now endorsing Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), but is McCain endorsing him back?

This morning the McCain campaign helpfully circulated a column Oliver North had penned in The Washington Times, extolling the senator's virtues, under the heading "In Case You Missed It: Oliver North on John McCain." The e-mail made a point of pulling out the key laudatory quote and placing it in bold, making it even easier for reporters to read: "Neither John McCain, nor anyone in his campaign asked me to write this column. But I cannot sit silently while my fellow conservatives do to John McCain what GOP 'moderates' did to me. Today, the stakes for our country are far higher, the implications for the future far greater than who sits in one of 100 U.S. Senate seats. Now, our nation is at war against a vicious foe. We need a president who has proven how to win it."

I didn't realize that sending Khalid Sheikh Mohammad to Kansas was the proven path to victory.

Off topic. But you know, I shocked Hannity hasn’t jumped on the Mccain amnestywagon. The way he dumped Guiliani and hitched his ride to Romney a few weeks back was fair weather at its finest

I think it's one of those "Arsenic is safer than cyanide" less than ringing endorsements.

This is the man John McCain chose to be his "Hispanic Outreach Director." Hernandez is a certified traitor. Born in Dallas, he decided as an adult to become a dual-national Mexican citizen. His last "real" job was serving on Mexican President Vicente Fox's cabinet as his "American Reconquista Director." After that gig ran out, he worked (sic) for George Soros funded internationalist foundations, like the one that published his new book.

The "New American Pioneers" proclaimed in his book are the illegal alien invaders he urges to become settlers in the USA. Hernandez believes all Mexicans and Mexican-Americans in the USA should become dual citizens and consider themselves Mexicans first, "to the 8th generation." He believes there should be no border at all between Mexico and the USA, ever.

And this is the man McCain chose for his "Hispanic Outreach Director." In the past week McCain was asked about this choice, and he said he chose Hernandez because he agrees with his positions. If so, McCain is supporting invasion and reconquista.

Then I read our Constitution, Article 4 Section 4, where it says the federal government MUST protect the states from invasion, and I can only conclude one thing: John McCain is our new Benedict Arnold.

"In his own words: McCain’s radical Hispanic outreach director Juan Hernandez on youtube"

While I don't much give a damn who or what most people endorse, I do listen when Ollie North says something.

I will consider what he has said.

"McCain Camp Touts Ollie North Endorsement...

The difference is that I can respectfully disagree with Ollie North; don't know why he would decide to endorse John McCain but he's still Oliver North, an American Hero.

John McCain, on the other hand, is not a hero (yes, he was a POW but I vehemently dispute whether was ever a hero). I also disagree with John McCain on almost everything he's ever done in Washington, DC and there's nothing respectful about my disagreement! He's a very disagreeable Liberal Politician (identical in many ways to Ted Kennedy)! He's disgusting.

Freedom and John McCain don't go in the same sentence. If you want to have a fantasy, consider Thelma Hayek, but the notion that John McCAin would be competent to do anything other than get captured is just--a fantasy.

Feel good about voting for a guy who wanted to cripple both the first and the second amendments? This guy should have been put in a V.A. psych ward, not the Congress of the United States.

LOL. I think he's busy sellin' snake oil. Did he ever get back his money that he alleged was his but got frozen in the BCCI scandal? How about Thomas Clines for McCain? Nah... those dirty penny stock deals would make that look messy. He did get McFarlane to write an op-ed in the WSJ last week. Here comes Czech Fund all over again. I hope Ollie has taken the highroad--but his endorsing McCain is disappointing.

McCain has Jack Kemp standing proudly standing by his side, though, despite his sleazy dealing with Hugo Chavez and getting caught up in the Oil-For-Food scandal.

Such fine company McCain keeps. I just found his little institute that he formed getting money not only from Soros, but from long-time anti-war operatives. His "executive director" even touts Ward Churchill in a book she wrote.

You dumb, common, ordinary people just don’t understand.

Looking out for America’s interests is always secondary to our political/financial/corporate/media elites (of which Ollie is now sadly one).

What is more important is their tribe. In Ollie’s case, a fellow ring-knocker* from the Naval Academy. For others, its the tribe of journalists, or political consultants, the US Senate, bsuiness executives, bankers, congressional staffers, fellow office holders, party hacks.

The sudden rush of people to McCain who used to pose as true conservative believers on taxes, immigration, judges - shows that being a member in good standing of the tribe/club is more important than worrying about what the American people want.

* If you have ever been around Academy graduates at a meeting, you can’t miss them waving the big Academy ring around for all to see or knocking it on the table to attract attention. It works while they are active duty, but they have a hard time adjusting in civilian life when the world doesn’t jump up and salute when they wave it around.

We can lose the election and survive, and the party must be brought back to its basic principles. After 4 years of HRC or BHO, the time will be right.

I’ve been around a number of Academy grads, and I did not know they were Academy grads for months, even years, before someone let the cat out of the bag. They were humble, quiet, family guys like all the rest of the males in our neighborhood. Maybe it’s a generational thing. These men were all my age or younger. I can’t speak for older Academy grads. If I have known any, I’m not sure. But we used to live around a bunch. I could not even guess the politics of several of them.

Well, truth be told, Ted's a guy I could share a Chivas with - probably have a couple laughs (but I wouldn't ask him to drive me home). I'd avoid having a drink with McCain; who knows what he'd be like with a little liquor in him.

Some of the young "conservatives" at CPAC were seen asking whiney questions of Anne Coulter that went something like this, "but if we don't support John McCain, a lot of us won't get jobs in Washington next year."

The policy brigade is as much a part of the problem as anything.

Has Ollie seen this today?

http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/0,1518,534459,00.html

SPIEGEL: Senator McCain, Europe is reserving a lot of hope for the next president of the United States. Will you try to win back trust in America around the world?

McCain: I know most of the leaders in Europe and other parts of the world and I have a long record of my positions and my ability to work together with our allies. I think I will start out with a level of credibility.

FROM THE MAGAZINE
Find out how you can reprint this DER SPIEGEL article in your publication. SPIEGEL: America has lost a lot of friends because President George W. Bush angered, indeed outraged, them. He allowed human rights to be violated at Guantanamo Bay, and he dismissed the joint effort to combat global warming. Under a President McCain, could we expect a change of course?

McCain: Yes. I would announce that we are not ever going to torture anyone held in American custody. I would announce that we were closing Guantanamo Bay and moving those prisoners to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and I would announce a commitment to addressing climate change and my dedication to a global agreement — but it has to include India and China.

SPIEGEL: So is America coming back to renegotiate the Kyoto Protocol?

McCain: I believe America is going to enter into negotiations to try to reach a global agreement. But, as I said, that agreement must include India and China, two of the emerging economies of the world. We would be foolish not to do so.

SPIEGEL: Will America attempt to go it alone less frequently in the future?

McCAIN: Well, we all hope that America will be multilateral again in the future. There were times when the United States acted unilaterally, but I think we would all prefer to work in concert with our friends and allies.

SPIEGEL: What role will the United Nations play? Bush always ignored the UN.

McCain: The United Nations always plays an important role. But right now we are having to deal with a Russia that is clearly intent on blocking action. That’s why the UN must act in a league of democracies that share our values and our common principles.
