No: 08-018 State Of Alaska Joins Texas Amicus Brief
February 8, 2008, Juneau, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin announced the State of Alaska will join the multi-state amicus brief authored by the State of Texas in support of the Second Amendment right of individual Americans to bear arms.
On Tuesday, February 5, 2008, Alaska Attorney General Talis Colberg notified Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott that Alaska would sign on to the brief. The Texas amicus brief in the case Washington, D.C. v. Heller will be filed by February 11, 2008.
Governor Palin, a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association, has long been a champion of the constitutional right to bear arms, as well as a proponent of gun safety programs for Alaskas youth.
I am proud to join the State of Texas in support of the Second Amendment, Governor Palin said. We need to send a strong message that law-abiding citizens have a right to own firearms, for personal protection, for hunting and for any other lawful purpose.

In practice and tradition the 2A is an individual right.
Let me prepare you all for what will happen in March:
The SC will rule that the 2A is indeed an individual right, BUT government has the power to reasonably restrict access/use.
Little will change except that DC citizens will be allowed to own handguns in their homes. They will be highly regulated.

hehehe She's definitely a very beautiful woman, and has always seemed authentic to me. Maybe I'm just a sucker for her pretty face, and maybe it's beauty queen poise training that allows her to handle fish like a pro, but I actually believe she was a commercial and sport fisherman, and while I'm not so sure I'd agree with all of her positions, I believe she would bring energy to a ticket, and social conservatism that's respectful of individual rights. But again, maybe it's just wishful thinking, after all the disappointments in the prez track.

In summary, I think she'd be a smart pic for a VP slot. I just wouldn't want her choosing names for anything (her children are Bristol, Piper, Track, and Willow). :-)

Just curious... Is that pendant a "Tinkerbell" (the Disney flying fairy)? Does anybody recognize it as something else?
I think she'd make a terrific Veep. Might make me interested in voting in November; which would be a vast improvement over my present inclination, which is to puke my guts out.

If there is any indication on how important this SCOTUS case is, and the lack of any 2nd Amendment cases for what...70 years?...it is that so many briefs have been filed. I was surprised to see a congressional brief, but one from the States too. Wow. All eyes on SCOTUS this spring/summer.

If they get caught up in the twisted language of that Congressional brief, there will be some real howling--and a sign that the SCOTUS has jumped the shark. If they don't play politics and just do their job, they can demonstrate that they are still worthy of great respect.

The GOP could do a lot worse than she! Just realized I used a poor gramatical construction. >blush!<
While what I wrote could be correct, what I really meant was to say "worse than nominating her"

They could organize their own militias and arm them with more than small arms, i.e. hanguns, rifles and shotguns. The National Guard is a federal organization that the feds lend to the governors when they're not activated for federal purposes.
It was a grass roots movement that organized in most states for shall issue concealed carry privileges. Alaska went from privilege to right like Vermont has always been. Wyoming got one house in its legislature to make it a right.

I'm wishing I were back up in New York State...dang, I miss a good honest snow, rather than "wintry mix" we get all the time down here.
Was looking at historical photos of the area recently, and it struck me how often there was snow way back when. (They are construction progress photos taken at regular intervals, so it's not just "hey, it snowed--take a pic!" sampling bias.) Even if there's nothing we can do about it, climate change can be irritating sometimes.

You are right. They CAN’T rule otherwise. There’s too much power and control at stake. I mean, we can’t have freedom breaking out all over the place can we?

Its a bone.
Something for conservatives to celebrate.
It is otherwise meaningless
At the most it allows us to settle the individual right issue, but I doubt we will ever reverse the many gun laws that have been written.

They are walking on eg-shells. They have to maintain the status quo.
Worded wrong in either direction will have consequences.
A slingshot snap back to the right or a slow continuous drawing to the left, which will eventually result in a snap-back to the right.

A meaningless decision, and we risk the very real possibility that the U.S. Supreme Court will rule an individual right, protected only for those individuals in a well regulated Militia.

The SC will rule that the 2A is indeed an individual right, BUT government has the power to reasonably restrict access/use.Such a decision would result in a backlash, because the individual RKBA would be mostly a nullity. The SCOTUS has to make a real decision. Any half-hearted garbage would be seen as illegitimate and would further degrade the respect the People hold for the Court. I'm not saying they won't do that; just that it would be a big mistake.

The 2A by tradition and by practice is an individual right. They likely won't rule any other way.
Similarly
Government has long usurped their role and has "reasonably" restricted access & use. The SC will carefully word it so that government will still have the power to "reasonably restrict"
People have lived with it under its present construct for so long there will be no backlash.
Nothing will change.
