Yes, I did recall correctly that this POS has been associated with the bombings of the US Embassy and the US Marine Barracks and French barracks that slaughtered so many back in 1983. I only wish this scumbag could have suffered a long slow death, but at least he (apparently) is gone. Just a good thing we never waterboarded him, though, now that would have been truly unacceptable. /s

Imad Mugniyeh became Hezbollah’s star recruit, reporting directly to Ali Akbar Mohtashemi-Pour, Iran’s ambassador to Syria. His terrorist pedigree began with a bang when he organized the April 18, 1983, bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Beirut that killed 63 people, including Robert Ames, the CIA’s top Middle East operations officer, and many of his best agents.

In October 1983, Mugniyeh was back at work. This time, with Iranian and Syrian help, he plotted the twin suicide truck-bomb attacks in Beirut that took the lives of 242 U.S. Marines and 58 French troops.

For many years Mugniyeh’s personal involvement in those early bombings remained obscure. It wasn’t until he kidnapped the new CIA station chief to Beirut, William Buckley, in April 1984 that the U.S. intelligence community began to get a fix on him.

Yes, I am very, very happy.

It is sad to hear of anyone’s death, but when this terrorist died — a lot of lives were saved, in my opinion.

Now we need Mohammed Ali Hamadi, the other hijacker that Germany released in 2005 against our wishes. Not as big as Mugniyah, but certainly wanted.

Isn’t he also responsible for marine barrack attack in 1983?

many sources say he was the mastermind behind it.

people—the death of this greaseball is a MAJOR victory in the war on terror. He was without a doubt, one of the most dangerous, methodical, and “effective” terrorist masterminds alive today. To the Israelis he was much more dangerous than Al-Qeada, and to the Americans he was also very dangerous.

Whoever killed him—who knows? The Mossad, The CIA (doubtful), or just some fellow arabs who had a beef with him—who knows????? But he’s dead and I’m sure many of the other arch terrorists are squirming in their pants.

You are so right. This monster has been a myth for so long, his death has reduced him back down to just a man. So many of us have that one furtive photograph of him locked in our psyche as the monster of all monsters. We don't even know for certain how many lives he took from this world, but I believe them to be in the thousands from the 80s to 9/11 and beyond.

He has also been linked to bombings in South America... many many people will breathe easier today knowing he was found and taken out. Thank you, Israel!

Apparently he was the Hezbollah equivalent of Bin Laden’s chief of staff. He was as big a fish as they come.

I hope he suffered, and I hope he suffered long enough to realize that Israel was behind his death.

Assuming, of course, that the initial early report is correct.

Yes, he seemed to have no conscience at all.
He seemed to be free to come and go — like Shukrijumah still is.

Since then, however, new shoots have sprung up in El Salvador and in Chiapas in southern Mexico. To say that these folks are not "real Hizballah" is true to a point. We are used to thinking of Hizballah as a strictly-controlled entity of Lebanese origin operating at the behest of the Iranian regime. It is possible that no one is more surprised than Hizballah Lebanon to learn that they have given rise to Latin American affiliates, but they have. If there is one thing Iran and Hizballah could use right now, it's operatives who are not Iranian, not Lebanese, not obviously Arab or Persian - people who are more likely to be able to travel below the radar. Ditto to everything you said, Jaysin. And that is why it seems that Israel was the one who removed him from this world in such a final fiery way. Bin Laden's mentor is dead, hallelujah!
