Why Hillary Will Lose
Real Clear Politics ^ | Dick Morris | February 13, 2008

Posted on 02/13/2008 7:38:21 AM PST by vietvet67

Hillary Clinton has blown an almost sure shot at the Democratic presidential nomination. Having surrendered the lead to Obama, she is not likely ever to regain it. It is a fantasy that the Ohio and Texas primaries will be a "firewall" to contain the flames of enthusiasm for Obama and reverse her defeats of February. Just as with Giuliani's supposed Florida firewall, Hillary's will crumble as Obama's momentum carries him forward to the nomination.

Before Hillary lost her first primary or caucus, she lost the dialogue with the Obama campaign vis-à-vis the totally misguided decision to focus her message on experience, surrendering the ground of change to her opponent.

The more she tried to emphasize Obama's inexperience, the more she seemed to fence herself into the status quo. That it was the status quo ante of the Clinton years, not the status quo of the Bush administration, made less and less difference as the campaign progressed.

She ran on a message perfect for a Republican primary -- experience -- and abandoned the key to winning a Democratic primary -- the message of change -- to Obama.

Her decision to rely on special interest political action committee and lobbyist contributions and to seed her war chest with the checks of maxed-out donors gave substance to Obama's contrast of the status quo vs. change. With her chief strategist a lobbyist and her top campaign team all in the business, she was awash in associations that crippled her ability to fight for change.

Obama became the attraction in the race while Hillary recited her laundry list of proposals with a deadening monotony.

From Dick Morris, you get conventional wisdom. That is not to say that conventional wisdom is always wrong. Conventional wisdom is usually correct. But there is nothing special about it.

The nomination and the general election are Obama’s to lose, hayna? People, even Democrat people, are beginning to realize that Hillary’s main campaign motivation is her thirst for revenge against all of us who ridiculed and rejected her incarceratory nationalized health care morass. And you have to hold a gun to a conservative’s head to get him to vote for McCain, while the Obama mommas are beginning to necessitate crowd control at their caucuses and primaries.

And, on topic -

it doesn’t matter if Hillary “loses” the vote/delegate count, she’ll still get the nomination through machinations of some sort.

Obama leads in pledged delegates by about 129 at this stage, with 27 CO, 20 WA, 5 DC, 18 MD and 2 VA to be decided, which will break his way. Then, WI and HI and MS will give Obama even more big delegate tallies. Hillary’s deficit will be about 150 delegates, which is really huge when delegates are given out proportionally like they are with the Democrats. She will need to beat Obama by like 20 points in her firewall states of TX, OH, PA, IN, WV, and KY.

Bill’s antics in South Carolina (playing the race card) is key. Obama’s victories have accelerated ever since. The whole episode reminded too many voters of the worst of a Clinton presidency.

Hellary is getting desperate. It wouldn’t surprise me if she suddenly announces that She and Bill are getting a divorce. Such a bombshell would shake things up and help her with the women’s vote, and the Bill haters. She probably blames bill for her disasterous racial attacks on Obama since she was depending on him to deliver black votes. Since that backfired she doesn’t need him and the baggage he brings. People don’t like the dual president, 2 for 1 business anyway. A divorce would be brilliant strategy especially since her attacks on Obama all seem to backfire.

Obama scares me...too squishy-feely-JFK, the kind of person “idealistic” people vote for without knowing anything about politics...or outcomes. Still, if there is a dance-in-the-street item anywhere in this whole thing, it is that the Ice Queen is really getting @$$-kicked. That whole Karma thing is a bear, isn’t it Hill?

Besides losing the rhetorical battle, Hillary will have nowhere near the money that Obama will have. Her preparations for a short war based on maxed-out donors and old politics were disastrously shortsighted, while Obama wisely cultivated online contributors who can regenerate with the click of a mouse.

So she'll soon be out of money too? Here come the Chinese busboys.

I agree. Wasn’t Morris spouting how Kerry was going to defeat Bush in 2004? For a time he thought Hillary would enter the POTUS race in 2004, then he was firmly adamant that the only person who could defeat Hillary in 2008 was Condi. Why is anyone listening to this guy?

The man tends to be consistently wrong on a host of issues. He is given waaaaaaaay too much airtime on radio and TV.

I enjoyed her trying to thank all the people who are important to her campaign in Texas last night (only part I watched). Her shout-speech and the use of “I” was almost as annoying as her having to read and butcher the names of these people who were sooooo important to her. It was an awful performance. She’s toast in Texas.

Hillary will not go quietly into the graveyard of failed Presidential candidates.

This is the Clintons not the Clampetts.

Julian Bond, who just happens to be Black and just happens to be pretty high up in the NAACP, called for the Michigan and Florida delegates to be seated at the convention.

Two states where the Dem candidates said they were not going to campaign.

Hillary was the only one on the ballot in Michigan. Hillary flew to Florida for a "winner's speech" after their primary, even though the DNC said it didn't count.

There are a lot of Clinton appointed judges out there waiting to hear the challenges on seating the delegates from those two states.

Hillary also has the super-delegates in her column. Never underestimate them. Remember the Impeachment Pep Rally where the people who comprise the super-delegates marched from the Capitol to the White House to glory in the non-conviction of Bill after a gutless bunch of Republican senators refused to do their duty?

Hillary is on the ropes. But she is definitely in Rope-a-Dope mode.

It's going to take more than one bucket of water to melt this witch.

They don’t actually have to divorce. The announcement would be enough. They can reconcile after the election. As far as testifying, that will never happen anyway since each could send the other away for a long long time.
