PHOTO OF THE DAY:

In this image released by the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice speaks to troops during her visit at the Regional Command South in Kandahar Airfield on February 7, 2008. Rice said Tuesday she planned to ask Congress for extra funds to boost cooperation between US diplomats and troops in post-conflict stabilization operations. (AFP/ISAF-HO/File)

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

President Bush on Wednesday said, "Congress has had over six months to discuss and deliberate. The time for debate is over. I will not accept any temporary extension. House members have had plenty of time to pass a good bill. They have already been given a two-week extension beyond the deadline they set for themselves. If Republicans and Democrats in the Senate can come together on a good piece of legislation, there is no reason why Republicans and Democrats in the House cannot pass the Senate bill immediately."

Defense Secretary Robert Gates fractured his right arm in a fall on an icy step at his home in Washington, D.C., and was treated Wednesday at Bethesda Naval Medical Center, the Pentagon said.

He returned to work later Wednesday and the injury was not expected to affect his schedule in the coming weeks

Gates slipped Tuesday night but decided not to be examined until the next morning when he got to the Defense Department, where he underwent a series of X-rays. He was taken to Bethesda in suburban Maryland and returned to the Pentagon later Wednesday.

Gates suffered a fracture of his upper right humerus and has been fitted with a sling.

Woo Hoo!!!

Er, sorry about the double post. Got an error message about a remote server the first time I tried to send it. Plus my internet connection is very slow tonight for some reason.

Have this picture that's about 4 years old I would really love to have on a toaster. We are really going to miss this good man when he leaves office.

W seems to be feeling his oats lately or maybe I have just been more observant of his statements and humor since I became a Dose hostess.

Nice to see ya...how is your precious little Piper and is her Mama better?

That is a very nice photo. Good of him and the girls are so adorable...you can tell they are nuts about him. Bet this photo was taken during Campaign 2004?

FR is very, very slow tonight. Wouldn't surprise me if it went down soon.

"We are really going to miss this good man when he leaves office."

I think maybe in more ways than one....

Just today, while speaking about the Protect America Act, he said, "The House's failure to pass the bipartisan Senate bill would jeopardize the security of our citizens. As Director McConnell has told me, without this law, our ability to prevent new attacks will be weakened. And it will become harder for us to uncover terrorist plots."

I think that W is secretly getting excited to finally be out of that ratrace in Washington....and to go to the ranch for a permanent visit.

I am sure Piper remains adorable...and last I heard Mommy was still in the hospital. I had to come home because of work, but everything is fine. Thank you for asking!

thank you daisy for the Dose tonight. I was noticing how tall & straight his posture is (a lot of younger people slouch so) and the air of determination that is part of that posture.

Again asking.. has anyone seen Nick lately???

hope he is okay

He gets to go the Africa on Friday and I am sure he is excited about the wedding at the ranch. He has worked so hard getting it up to snuff. How special that Jenna chose it for her big day.

Maybe Nick is getting some time off before they all head out to Africa on Friday. He should show up in some of those photos as I think he goes on all the trips.

He could also already be in Africa on the Advance Team.

Being as Sec. Gates is a Texan, I don’t imagine he has much experience navigating northern ice. He probably wasn’t wearing the proper shoes etc either. Oh well, this will probably be his last winter in D.C. also.

I have not been on the computer today but wanted to share some news with y’all. My granddaughter went to the dr. today. He told her that he wants her to come back next week and if the baby is developed enough, we will have a baby either that day or the next. We can hardly wait. I told gd to get plenty of rest while she can. I also have a dr’s appt. tomorrow. He wants to check to see if my kidney infection is improving plus he wants to check the chest muscle, we think I tore while throwing up. What a mess. I can hardly breathe.

"We are really going to miss this good man when he leaves office."

I certainly will. Lately it seems that his name in the DBM is "unpopular President Bush." Maybe with them; not with me.

It would be nice if the dose could find its way to the GWB Library. It is a fantastic record of his tenure, including comments of people who appreciate him.

Thanks for your links, especially the one about Africa. Reminded me to post this little blurb:

President and Mrs. Bush will travel to Africa from February 15-21, 2008. They will visit Benin, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ghana, and Liberia. This trip will be an opportunity for the President to review firsthand the significant progress since his last visit in 2003 in efforts to increase economic development and fight HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other treatable diseases, as a result of the United States robust programs in these areas.
