Without the research done by labs supported by government funding, there would be nothing to develop! Biotech and pharma would all have burnt through their entire intial capital before they even found out what sort of products were worth investigating in a clinical trial. It’s not as if there’s this huge gap between “basic” and “applied” science. It’s a continuum, and without people working at all levels, medicine won’t get far. I mean, there are around 20,000 genes in the human genome, and an untold number of regulatory sequences, and we really only fully understand how a tiny fraction of them even work, let alone understand how that knowledge could be used to treat disease. The surface has been barely scratched.
Avonex has been 100% effectove for me since being diagnosed eight years ago and I will be staying with it despite this appealing new method.
What's wrong with that approach to discovery and innovation? It's all about learning from the successes of others and making incremental advances.
That must mean the MRI image in post #49 is fake!!! Pheww, that was close. Thanks. :)
Glad to hear it. I'm not sure we want to upset the apple cart and switch medicines. Her doctor is "The" authority on MS in Texas so we will trust his judgement.
