McCain's Marine son returns from Iraq

**EXCERPT**

WASHINGTON (CNN) —
Republican presidential candidate John McCain, who almost always refuses to speak on the campaign trail about his son serving in the military, got a rousing reception Wednesday when he told a private gathering of House Republican congressman that his son Jimmy — whose Marine unit had been deployed to Iraq — had arrived home from safely.

According to three GOP sources present at the closed meeting of the House Republican Conference, the Arizona senator said that when his son first arrived in the country, he reported seeing IEDs everywhere — but when he recently left, some seven months later, Iraq had become so safe he was handing out soccer balls.

“Thank you for your service Jim McCain.”

I copy that. Please talk some sense into your old man’s head.

Like that Jerk James Webb. He wore his son’s boots during his Senate campaign. I thought that was pretty selfish because I figured the kid needed them in Iraq more than jerko needed them in Virginia.

Which makes it even more puzzleing that he’s for national offense but against national defense.

Would you mind expanding on this?

National offense: starting wars all over the world to eliminate “bad guys” (usually after we arm them or put them in power) all in the name of keeping us safe. Many times it entails arming and funding an opposition group, who in a decade or so will then become our new enemies and thus we’ll need to spend blood and treasure to eliminate them by funding and arming an opposition group which in a in a decade or so will then become our new enemies and thus we’ll need to spend blood and treasure to eliminate them by funding and arming an opposition group... you get it.

National defense: protecting the land between national borders, protecting individual rights endowed by the creator, upholding national soverignty. Not being afraid to call the enemy by it’s name or face (Religion of peace my ass.) To me, national defense not only entails defending against an enemy from outside (be it real or hyped) but also from the internal enemies trying to subvert the republic which our founders created.

Well it goes like this, there is a great circulation of thought inside the beltway that deportation of illegals would be a disaster for the economy(I disagree), and that the demographic makeup over the next 20 years will make it impossible for conservatives and republicans to win elections. The reason we need a debate and not hyperbole on the issue of immigration is precisely to change the minds of folks that are worried about the economic impact of mass deportation. We all understand that produce is cheaper because of migrant labor, we also understand that paying entitlements and health care expenses offset the savings we enjoy at the supermarket. The biggest worry is about entitlement spending and baby boomer’s. There is some data to suggest that it is unsustainable to continue to provide retirement and Medicare without expanding the workforce age population. Throw in a few million amnesty citizens and you have expanded the tax base. Unfortunately they wont make enough money to actually make an impact, and in my opinion are a net negative when all is said and done. I think this is were McCain is coming from, his other liberal positions make no sense to me whatsoever. Right now the debate sounds like white folks trying to kick out brown folks, the debate needs to focus on the rule of law and the negative economic consequences of not securing our border. McCain is pompous, vain and a typical Washington Senator, but he’s not evil. He needs folks to stop yelling at him and start educating him. He needs to subscribe to Freerepublic.

And that’s a good thing. Paul reminds me of that scene in Spinal Tap. The guitarist has an amp that goes to 11. The interviewer says “but it sounds fine on 10.” The guitarist says “Well yeah, but this one goes to 11!” Paul is right when it comes to unintended consequences, but he takes it too far to be taken seriously. Don’t get me wrong, I respect him and am happy he is still running, but he’d be no better as CIC than a total militant. Another analogy... some people kick a beehive then bitch when they get stung. Paul just says stay out of the forest altogether. I think I’m somewhere in the middle, where conservatives were in the ‘90s.

I’ll tell you what, that’s an excellent analysis. The thing is, I look at the border problem more from a national security standpoint. Not only from the obvious “Arab coming through with a suitcase nuke” scenerio, but also with MS-13, and the terrorists trained at the School of Americas. I hate outsourcing though. Somewhere along the way, free trade lost it’s meaning and we started getting screwed here at home. Like I said though, I agree with most of your sentiments and it is definatly a public perception problem. I had a conversation with a friend of mine who spent almost 20 years with the Round Rock PD in Texas, and he thinks if the illegals get amnesty, there will be a racial war in the southwest by 2011.

Yah, but we didn’t kick the beehive. We’re just here to fumigate it. Works for me.

Go read OBL’s 1996 Fatwa, or the conclusions of the 9/11 Commission Report. And it’s not even just the Arab problem, but also in South and Central America. Castro, Posada Carriles, Noriega, Galtieri, D’Aubuisson, Marco Sosa, Torrijas, Montesinos, Alvarado, ect. And in the middle east the Baathists, Operation Cyclone, Ajax, the Taliban, ect. It’s a very, very tight rope to walk across. And don’t get me wrong, it’s not just a US thing. The Soviets did the same thing, shipping Kalishnikovs off to any country who was anti-American. It’s yet another reason domestic security should be more important than anything else.

And I should add, so people don’t peg me as an isolationist, I supported the Iraq invasion. Hell, I still say we won the war. But with any military action, I believe in going in, kicking ass, and getting out. The global love cop stuff, the Wilson/Clinton-esque nation building always ends badly unless the populace en masse fights for their own freedom. And BTW... screw democracy. This is a republic, or is meant to be.
