The Next Great Awakening

There’s no better path to success than getting people to buy a free commodity. Like the genius who figured out how to get people to pay for water: Bottle it (Aquafina was revealed to be nothing more than reprocessed tap water) and charge more than they pay for gasoline. Or consider how Google found a way to sell dictionary nouns — boat, shoe, clock — by charging advertisers zillions to be listed whenever the word is searched.

And now, in the most amazing trick of all, a silver-tongued freshman senator has found a way to sell hope. To get it, you need only give him your vote. Barack Obama is getting millions. . . .

I remember that commercial airing when I was a little kid.

Now, the people in the commercial want to run the country.

Scary.

Me too. I don't want to see McCain get the nomination but after learning more about this guy...I don't think I could just sit this one out. I am disgusted as all get out with the GOP this year and would love to make a statement. But reading his platform...very scary stuff.

This will sell to the 50% of Americans who are already on the government dole to some extent or another.

Sadly we have reached that tipping point where more than half the electorate is on the government gravy train. So we have a long way to go to get back to normal.

You can not tax business to death. They are the ones who make the jobs..

Why are democrats so bad at basic economics?

He is for green collar jobs (sounds trendy), curing global poverty since LBJ’s worked so wel here, going through the UN, paying college for kids that spend an hour hanging out in a soup kitchen, VA Hospital, Aids clinic etc. All in all it sounds like teh start of the industrial revolution doesnt it. Healthcare for all too. The thing is I know more about him than his fans do.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but don't we already get to deduct mortgage interest on our taxes?

You can deduct it off of your income, which can reduce your tax liability. He's talking about a "tax credit" which is a direct reduction of your tax liability.

If we can fend off Goreist carbon credits and other fees and fines, green-collar is our best chance of new manufacturing industry.

Plus it’s fun. I worked on some lithium-ion batteries for the transportation sector, had a blast. It’s important we move non-petro energy sectors forward.

One way we can start debunking the Obama myth is to stop this nonsensical equivalence jibberish about Obama and McCain. There has never been a more distinct difference between two major candidates.

Just consider one issue:

Barack Obama has said he would lift the income ceiling on the Social Security tax. Currently, only the first $97,500 of a person’s annual income is taxed; the cap is scheduled to rise to $102,000 next year. He said that increasing the income ceiling would allow relatively well-off taxpayers such as himself to pay a little more to rescue the system.

Do the math, people.

Combine the expiration of the Bush tax cuts (e.g., the return of increased income tax rates and the marriage penalty) along with in effect, a new marginal 6.2% increase above $97,500.

No wonder Rush and Hannity have given Obama a free pass. They can’t wait until he’s nominated. Hell, they can’t wait until he’s elected.

Talk about the return of the good old days of the 1994 Angry White Man. They won’t mind eveyone paying more in taxes, because the anger will be overwhelming.

Then, they’ll come along at the last minute - too late - and say:

“See, I told you so.”

A very weak President who has charisma but not much else will make both left and right nostalgic for Presidents 42 and 43.
