Victim: French Fries To Blame For SEPTA Station Gang Beating
NBC-10 News (Philadelphia, PA) ^ | 2/14/08 | n/a

PHILADELPHIA -- A teenager riding SEPTA home from school said Wednesday she was attacked by a group of teenage girls over french fries, and wanted to thank the good Samaritan she said stopped the beating.

The 16-year-old girl, who was not identified, told NBC 10 News she knew others had been attacked on SEPTA, but said she had no idea she would be the next victim.

"It was just astonishing to me that many girls would come after just the three of us," she said. "I didn't think that was possible that me and my friends would be jumped on a subway station in a public place. I thought there would at least be help around somewhere."

The girl and her friends are students at Philadelphia Girls High School, and got on the Broad Street Subway on Tuesday after school. It was the next stop, which was at Broad and Logan, that 12 girls they didn't know got on, the girl said. One knocked french fries out of her friend's hand.

"Then four girls attacked me," the girl said, "pulling my hair and just grabbing it, swinging my head around and pounding on my head."

With no SEPTA help in sight, NBC 10 News reported, the girl said the assault would have continued if it wasn't for an unarmed vigilante.

"A lady who was sitting on the train near us decided enough was enough," the girls said. "She reached into her purse a little bit and moved her hand around as if she had a weapon. She's screaming at the girls to back up, and the girls yielded."

The 12 girls sprinted out of the SEPTA train at Broad and Erie, police said. The only description the victims had was that the attackers all wore shirts from Hope Charter School.

The girl's mother said the only SEPTA officer her daughter found was on the platform.

"I truly hope that this will wake SEPTA up and have them put more officers on the trains," she said. "Not on the platforms, but on the trains themselves."

No, no, no!

The fries are not to "blame"! The fries were a ridiculous excuse for four violent, selfish and undisciplined girls to attack someone.

The blame belongs to the attackers.

Where do so-called journalists come up with this bizarre love for blaming inanimate objects for crimes?

SUVs kill innocent people.

Guns kill innocent people.

Now, french fries cause people to attack innocent people.

An old lady reaches into her purse and she is a VIGILANTE????

a quote from someone claiming to have attended Hope charter school
Hello I was a student at hope charter, that left to attend Martin Luther King high school for the school yeah of 2006-2007. and will be attending the same school in September. All i wanted to say was, at Hope I didn't learn anything. There was many days of the school year, where we wouldn't have a teaher at all. Teacher came and went in that school. yes! we did have a few teachers who did their jobs, and tought us. The studets were out of control. The staff of the building let kids do what they wanted to, and there was no kind of order. i'm sending the message hoping my voice can spark a change in the school, because I see nothing but bad coming from that building. Ps; Please take this is someone who have been through it, and not as a game.

Even a few boy scouts on the trains would rectify matters considerably; but alas, boy scouts are about as welcome in the city of brotherly love-ins as the Marines are in Berkeley.

A lot of things changed (not necessarily for the better) when PTC (Philadelphia Transportation Company) became SEPTA.

Philadelpia, Baltimore, Detroit, etc.... All Democrat run for decades. The people there whine and complain about crime, poverty, lack of opportunity, et al but they never do anything to change it.

I was in Phil. for a conference a few weeks ago and thought about taking a short ride on the subway just to see what it was like. Glad I didn’t I’d rather get sore feet by walking anywhere I had to go. Of course the streets didn’t feel so safe either with all the vagrants around.

Fortunately they didn't call her bluff. Having a pistol you don't need is always better then needing a pistol you don't have!
