Gaza: 5 killed, 40 wounded in explosion in Islamic Jihad man's home
Jerusalem Post ^ | 16 February 2008 | AP

A powerful blast went off in the house of a senior Islamic Jihad operative Friday, killing at least five people and wounding 40, medics and Hamas said.

Witnesses said the three-story home of Ayman Atallah Fayed had completely collapsed, and that six nearby home were also badly damaged. The blast went off Friday evening in Fayed's house in the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza.

Islamic Jihad said Israel targeted the house in an air strike, but Hamas said the cause of the blast was not clear. The IDF said it had no knowledge of any strike on Bureij.

Very very interesting.

Let's list the possibilities:

a) A work accident - not impossible

b) Mossad / Shin Bet - when the IDF isn't allowed to show its muscles the secret services have decided to put some fear of God into the terrorist camp. First Mughniyeh, now Islamic Jihad operatives in Gaza. Not unlikely at all.

c) Iran or Syria - an Islamic Jihjad represnetative was present at the secret meeting with Mughniyeh at the Iranian School in Damascus. According to Lebanese reports Paletinians have been arrested in Syra suspected of taking part in the assassination. Are we seeing a red on red fight? Again, not unlikely at all.

Any ideas?

Work accident. Or a gas leak. Whatever it was, it got a bunch of terrorists. The funny thing is the IDF was nowhere in the area at the time.

Unfortunately your home is the place where accidents are most likely to occur. Everyone should be aware of the dangers in the home so that accidents can be avoided. The purpose of this information sheet is to raise awareness of the type of accidents that may occur in the home and what steps you can take to prevent them.

Home safety is for everyone...even for filthy mohammedans

Well, if you stock home made rockets in your home the risk of an accident certainly increases.

UPDATE: Islamic Jihad claimed Israeli warplanes hit the house in an air strike, and added that the group would carry out reprisal attacks against Israel. But Hamas said the cause of the blast was not clear, and the IDF, which regularly takes responsibility for attacks on Gaza terrorists, denied any involvement.

Witnesses reported seeing fragments of what looked like locally-produced rockets at the scene, suggesting the house may have been used to store arms.

Health Ministry official Moawiya Hassanain said six people were killed, among them a woman. He said 40 people were wounded, including nine who were in critical condition, and that more casualties were being evacuated from the scene.

Somebody please notify the State Dept. Training replacement Jihadis is not a cheap endeavor. Dr. Rice should immediately contact Abbas and inquire as to how much she should force Israel to reimburse the innocent freedom fighters.

Rick, I think you nailed it!

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - A powerful blast went off in the house of a senior Islamic Jihad activist Friday, killing him, his wife and daughter, along with three neighbors, medics and an Islamic Jihad spokesman said.

Islamic Jihad claimed Israeli warplanes struck the home of Ayman Atallah Fayed. Israel denied it had launched any airstrike in the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza where Fayed lived. Hamas police said the cause of the blast was not clear.

Witnesses reported seeing fragments of what looked like locally produced rockets at the scene, suggesting the house may have been used to store arms.

Islamic Jihad said Fayed was among the dead, and that the group would carry out reprisal attacks against Israel.

Fayed was a senior member of the Islamic Jihad military wing. Israel routinely targets top militants in airstrikes but Israel denied any such strike on Friday.

The three-story house was flattened by the blast and six nearby homes were badly damaged, witnesses said. At least 40 people were hurt, including 12 who were in critical condition

Thanks for the ping! My first thought is if available look at a pic of the damage to the building and to the surrounding six buildings, might help narrow down possible causes of the blast.
