Here is what the state GOP should be doing
The Frersno Bee ^ | 02-14-2008 | MICHAEL DER MANOUEL JR.

The aftermath of Sen. John McCain's stunning rise to the top of the Republican field in this year's presidential contest has been marked by great angst, weeping and gnashing of the teeth over whether he is "conservative enough" to unite Republicans in the November election. I hate to be the bearer of bad news: Despite claims from all quarters to the contrary, California's role in electing a president this year is over. Sen. McCain will not contest California against the Democrat nominee in November.

So if my theory is correct, and McCain doesn't contest California, what is there for the state GOP to do? First, quit pretending McCain can win here. The party needs a new prospectus. Donors like me will not participate in schemes that send money to other states.

Instead, the state Republican Party should adopt an aggressive plan to invest heavily in the legislative seats that are competitive year in and year out,

Second, the state party should negotiate a revenue-sharing agreement with the Republican National Committee, to prevent it from sending state money to other states.

Third, select several key local races across California and invest heavily in electing Republicans to nonpartisan offices such as mayor, city councils, county boards of supervisors and, in some cases, school boards.

Finally, the initiative process gives the state GOP an opportunity to run issue-oriented campaigns -- something desperately needed in California. Let's start with a ballot initiative making all fee increases passed by the state Legislature subject to a two-thirds vote, instead of a simple majority. In addition,

A long time, conservative, Republican functionary with a pragmatic eye on California. His advice is worth considering.

1) Don't pour money down McCain's rat hole.
2) Support individual candidates in contested, local races.
2) Use the system to achieve a political victory over an almost super-majority with a simple majority.

That's a good point. Another one to think about would be : "If California doesn't represent a winning Republican candidate, why the heck should California have been the state to pick [and coronate] one?"

Rest assured that it was purely an accident. The recent presidential primary in California had little to do with national politics.

The early primary was concocted by the three most powerful liberals in California (Nunez, Perata & Schwarzenegger) to allow passage of a state issue in time to effect the regular, California primary in June.

You forgot the most important thing they should do.

TRY Being LESS liberal and try being CONSERVATIVES FIRST and less “Republican”

That’s my advise to ALL Republicans!

You can also stop sending money to the RNC which in turn uses it to advance amnesty and open borders further increasing the number of Democrat voters in your state.

I for one don’t wan’t lessons from Michael Der Manouel Jr. on how to be conservative. This “guru” told us to vote for Rudy before he jumped shipped to what you get when you cross a rino with Mino “Mitt Romney”.

I didn’t take it as advice on how to be conservative—just a suggestion from how the party moves forward from the miserable position it is now in.

I’m disappointed that he was on the Rudy wagon. What’s a “MINO”?
