Bill Clinton: Obama's ignoring my White House legacy
CNN ^ | February 16, 2008

Posted on 02/16/2008 9:12:18 AM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) — Former President Clinton on Friday accused Sen. Barack Obama, his wife's rival for the Democratic nomination, of trying to ignore any accomplishments they achieved during their years in the White House.

"You have one candidate who's made the explicit argument that the only way we can change America is to move into a post-partisan future and therefore we have to eliminate from consideration for the presidency anybody who made good things happen in the '90s or stopped bad things from happening in this decade," said Clinton, who was winding up a day of East Texas campaign appearances for his wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

"It doesn't matter how much good you did," the former president said at Stephen F. Austin University. "We've got to get rid of you because you had to fight to make something good happen. You had to fight to stop something bad from happening. And if you fought, you made somebody mad, we ought to give you an old watch and retire you. You can't possibly make a contribution to America's future."

Without mentioning Obama by name, Clinton said the Illinois senator was promoting a position that it's "actually an advantage to not have any experience because you've not made anybody mad."

"It's been very effective," Clinton said. "It's already taken four good candidates out. It would have taken Hillary out if she didn't have so much grass-roots support and so much guts."

Clinton said his wife's position is to "bridge the party divides when we can, but we also need to be prepared to fight."

She has no guts. Those weak attacks on obama have been pathetic.
His church, affirmative action admittee, never once straying from the democratic caucaus, never running anything,
his insane wife (well maybe she should go in this direction) , che, cocaine use, meeting with despots,
more than a trillion in new spending ( again maybe this is not the best line of attack either) but she never attacked, because she is gutless.

I’m glad to see this. The Clintons are opening a new front in their battle against the MoveOn-Soros-Obama wing of the party. They are not going to say that Obama is too liberal (it would not be considered a negative in the Dem primaries), but they are going to argue that he is simply too idealistic and not tough and pragmatic enough.

It might work better than the subtle race-baiting Billary seemed to be tinkering with.

Ignored like BillHill Ignored UBL in the 90’s... Ignore the coming storm because it would inevitably happen on someone elses watch?

It could be argued that BillHill caused everything that has happened to date... So if its so bad then they are the culprits... guess its not really that bad after all... guess we really don’t need all this change now do we..

Rats dug a huge hole and unleashed Obama.

Bill Clinton gives every impression of being power-addicted, and unwilling to give up the presidency. He uses Hillary’s candidacy as a way to get back in office. For this reason more than almost any other, Hillary must be denied.

Corruption, fraud and treason makes for such a good legacy hmmm Bill?

I would of thought Bill would be glad Obama was ignoring his legacy. Or perhaps he wants Obama to bring up the fact he sold US Missile tech to the Chinese Communists in exchange for illegal campaign contributions in 1995-1996?

And ironic because it was Bill Clinton himself, running in 1992, who proved conclusively that hope trumps anger – that it is not about who will fight the power or who has experience, it’s about who can most skillfully project hopeful optimism about the future, and can persuade voters, beyond the Democratic base, that he will transcend what he called the “brain dead politics of Washington” (his own way of selling a post-partisan worldview).

And thus, in a bizarre twist, it was Obama who grasped the mantle of Clintonism and became the “Man from Hope.”

Fixing up a batch of popcorn this very moment.

Let's see Clintoon legacy, ...blue dress, blow jobs, lied to the country and caught, sold secrets to asia, got a ton of money from and old Hsu(shoe)illegally I might add, Arkansas sleletons, bombed Kosovo to keep folks minds off the BJ's ), cut up the military especially the SAC, whitwater gate, so many dead cronies that happened to KNOW something....the silverware...never took the OBL shot( thank-you Billy Waugh for being in position at least), Somalia retreat, almost impeached...I'm certain I missed a LOT

This could ba an awesome blog about failed Clintoon legacy, send it off to Obama who I dislike also but what the heck time to drown the Clintoon's in the old bitter well of politics.

If this were a general election, I’d agree with you. But unlike the old days of multiple ballots at conventions (i.e. what the media now call a “brokered convention”), the handlers in both parties want to avoid at all costs the appearance of a chaotic spectacle at the convention(*). So all candidates for the Dems have to proceed with more subtlety and hold their cannon fire for the GOP. But, Hillary does not want to let go. The next two weeks should be interesting.

(*)In my view, this is unfortunate. It takes a lot of the fun out of the democratic elements of our elections.

Is he? From the Concord Monitor: Obama's appeal is straightforward: getting beyond "the ideological battles that have consumed us for the last 20 years" - in which Clinton and her husband have been two of the main combatants.

Bill's legacy is front and center.
