“I am at the point now to ask; What the hell was Rumsfeld thinking to disband the Iraqi Army?
Sounds like the Gates team is listening to the people on the ground and using tactics that work.”
The Iraqi army was disband and rebuilt from the ground up. The actions of the Iraqi army that we are reading is the new Iraqi army that was begun under Rumsfeld, not the old Iraqi army that was trained under Saddam Hussein.
Tragically, 21 year old Sgt. Corey E. Spates of 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, MND-North was killed on February 10 when his vehicle was struck by an IED in Diyala Province, Iraq.
However, in the face of that tragedy is a small silver lining. Sgt. Spates, you see, was the last American killed by hostile action in Iraq. Note the date. February 10.
Due to time zones, it is now February 17 in Iraq.
Weve therefor gone a week without losing another good American to enemy action. Or put another way, Al Qaeda has become so impotent as to be unable to kill any of us in the entire last week.
Most cities of any appreciable size lose more Americans per week than the above to drunks, or to home fires, or to...drum roll...lightening strikes.
Al Qaeda has been obliterated in Iraq.
It sure is quiet out there for the most part these days.
Last year around this time, it was quite noisy.
It was not Rummy it was Paul Bremer that disbanded the Iraq Army.
Sounds like you have no idea what is going on in Iraq and merely are regurgitating the slogans screamed by Dincon Washington DC "News Media" clowns too arrogantly stupid to admit they have been wrong about Iraq from the start.
Counter Insurgency is not Total War. Different mission, different tactics, different problems. The Surge is working because we have the Iraqi forces up and running for us to back up.
We would not of had the Iraqi forces working if Rumsfeild had listen to the "boots on the Ground" clowns in DC in 2004-2005. This is Rummy's victory, not Gates.
Rummy outfought the DC based Dincocon idiots who wanted to Americanize the war in 2004-2005 because he knew victory ultimately rested with Iraqis, not us. Because Rummy was smart enough, and tough enough to beat down the stupid "Realists" in DC, Iraqi is a massive victory for the USA instead of a defeat.
Rummy's only mistake was underestimating how long it would take the Iraqis to get their forces up and running and how petty and politically vindictive the DC Old Boy's club is toward people who show them just how stupid, and petty, a bunch of clowns they are.
Shhhhh. Keep this under your hat. Not until we elect a pansie or a grouchy old lady for President.
