THE curse continues. Regardless of party, it’s hara-kiri for a politician to step into the shadow of even a mediocre speech by Barack Obama.
Senator Obama’s televised victory oration celebrating his Chesapeake primary trifecta on Tuesday night was a mechanical rehash. No matter. When the networks cut from the 17,000-plus Obama fans cheering at a Wisconsin arena to John McCain’s victory tableau before a few hundred spectators in the Old Town district of Alexandria, Va., it was a rerun of what happened to Hillary Clinton the night she lost Iowa. Senator McCain, backed by a collection of sallow-faced old Beltway pols, played the past to Mr. Obama’s here and now. Mr. McCain looked like a loser even though he, unlike Senator Clinton, had actually won.
But he has it even worse than Mrs. Clinton. What distinguished his posse from Mr. Obama’s throng was not just its age but its demographic monotony: all white and nearly all male. Such has been the inescapable Republican brand throughout this campaign, ever since David Letterman memorably pegged its lineup of presidential contenders last spring as “guys waiting to tee off at a restricted country club.”
For Mr. McCain, this albatross may be harder to shake than George W. Bush and Iraq, particularly in a faceoff with Mr. Obama. When Mr. McCain jokingly invoked the Obama slogan “I am fired up and ready to go” in his speech Tuesday night, it was as cringe-inducing as the white covers of R & B songs in the 1950s — or Mitt Romney’s stab at communing with his inner hip-hop on Martin Luther King’s birthday. Trapped in an archaic black-and-white newsreel, the G.O.P. looks more like a nostalgic relic than a national political party in contemporary America. A cultural sea change has passed it by.

The Ugly Secret could be that the average Hispanic Democrat does not like Barack, so far it is being played up as “Oh, they love the Clinton’s just on immigration” Which is strange as Bubba never really did much on immigration...
Neither did Hillary, so the reasons for the love are growing a bit thin, aside from the obvious.
The last time I checked, the Grand Old White Party was the Dems in that they were the slavers’ party. They created a variety of ways to hinder blacks from voting well into the 20th century.

I am surprised that the nyt is very critical of the GOP..next thing you will tell me is that they give aid and comfort to our enemies by printing our secrets on their front pages..

The theory of the McCain candidacy is that his “maverick” image will bring independents (approaching a third of all voters) to the rescue.
The maverick theory proponents are mainstream media dopes like Rich.

I agree with that 100%, but to be fair the average Hispanic Democrat from Colombia does not much care for the average Democrat from puerto Rico, those from Puerto Rico do not much care from those from Mexico, the Mexicans do not much care for those from Guatemala, The Guatemalans do not care much for those from El Salvador.. believe you at times the only thing I fear we share is the Language and we even arque about who speaks the better form.

The dirty little secret ofthe Dems is, that the don’t like blacks, they USE them. In fact, they HATE them, and laugh at them behind their backs. They also sneer at women, even ones like Hillary.
Our party has done more for minorities then the Dems could ever dream of. But we already know the facts.
It is funny how leftist whites like Rich are ashamed of their ethnicity. Last time I checked being white was not a bad thing.

The MSM was was saying how McCain was the Republican’s only hope to win in November. Now that McCain has gotten the nomination the MSM will say over and over again how he is a loser. The MSM template for the election has already been written.

Although the Rich is obviously stirring the pot, he’s taking a stab at McCain’s biggest weakness.
McCain is an image of the good old boys club. An old man, an old insider, who offers no energy, no excitement.
That’s what the GOP gave us.
Yeah, but he’s a “maverick”. It’ll be interesting watching the press do a heelspin and work to demote him from being James Dean to just one of the boys.

This should give a clue as to how one contends with Obama.
Emphasize old values, tradition, the greatness of those who’ve gone before, the lasting contributions they’ve made, the risk of leaving the tried and true in order to chase the fleeting and untested.
Especially in a dangerous world.
They should play 9/11 footage in this campaign, and they should remind us of the murders of 1000’s of our fellow citizens.
America loves security and tradition.
It shies away from those who pretend to be a messianic Golden Child.

Frank Rich wins the “trendier than thou” award: homosexuality is better than marriage, illegal aliens are better than legal citizens who are white, women are more righteous than men, and—only sometimes, of course, at the mother’s discretion—a dead aborted baby is better than a live born one!
The Grand Old White Party will REMIND Obama that they freed Blacks from Slavery and passed, by overwhelming margins, Civil Rights legislation during past 142 years, while Democrats formed and joined segregation groups.

All the good you ever did will be completely eclipsed by lies. You think BDS was bad? Bush only opposed Gore, not a black demigod.

And the last time I checked, it was Hillary who spoke of Obama not doing the "Spade work" necessary, and Hillary who trashed the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. by comparison with LBJ.
...and by the way, it's not whether America is ready for a black president. It's whether Obama is ready to be President. He has about the same experience as Dan Quayle did, who was adjudged too green for the *bottom* of the ticket by Dems.

Yeah, because the Democrats have been so diverse. No rich white men among the likes of Jean Kerry, Al Gore, Bill Clinton, Mike Dukakis, Walter Mondale, Jimmy Carter, LBJ, JFK, etc.
Wait until the racist democrats refuse to show up and vote for obama in November. They might even cross over and vote for McCain. And all of Rich’s purse-swinging peevishness and crying can’t do a thing about it.
