Before I ran for an held public office, I would have been severely flattered with such suggestions. I was niaeve(sp?) then and cynical now!

It is actually a miserable, thankless job even when you're smart enough not to get too close to anyone that may embarrass everyone and cause people to turn on you the way they did on Doolittle who was NEVER charged with ANY actual wrong-doing!!!

This is precisely why we're getting candidates of lower and lower caliber who don't even respect the office for which they aspire like Reagan did. Bill Clinton did more to cause this lack of respect for what we used to call "honorable" people in "high office" than anyone else except Rostenkowski in Washington and Unruh in Sacramento!!! (yes I know there are a multitude of others like Willie Brown and most other Demonicrats)
