Rasmussen: 71% Willing to Vote for Woman President, 73% for African-American
Rasmussen Report ^ | 2/17/08

Posted on 02/17/2008 2:25:41 PM PST by LibWhacker

Seventy-one percent (71%) of the nation’s voters say they would be willing to vote for a woman for President. Seventeen percent (17%) say they would not and 11% are not sure.

Results are similar when asked about voting for an African-American—73% are willing to cast such a vote, 14% are not, and 13% are not sure.

Seven percent (7%) of Democrats say they would not vote for a woman. Nine percent (9%) would not vote for an African-American.

Among political moderates, 12% say they would not vote for a woman. Fifteen percent (15%) would not vote for an African-American.

All of these numbers are undoubtedly influenced by the fact that a particular woman and a particular African-American are in the midst of an historic campaign that could land one of them in the White House next January (Rasmussen Markets data on Sunday morning shows that Barack Obama is given a 48% chance of being the next President. Expectations for Hillary Clinton are at 19%). In the race for the Democratic Presidential Nomination, Obama has overwhelmingly won the support of African-American voters while Clinton has been strongly favored by women.

While the overwhelming majority of voters say they could vote for a woman or an African-American, just 56% believe their family, friends, and co-workers would be willing to do the same. Among senior citizens, just 41% believe their peers would be willing to vote for a woman. Forty percent (40%) believe their peers would be willing to vote for an African-American.

These results are broadly consistent with the findings of earlier surveys.

Given the choice of Hillary as the First Women POTUS or Obama as the First SECOND Black POTUS.

There, fixed.

I am not willing to vote for a black man or a woman for President this election, but it has nothing to do with them being black or a woman.

The democrats are missing their best bet for POTUS.
Sheila Jackson-Lee should be their nominee.
144 percent would vote for her.:)

I’m willing and able to vote for the RIGHT woman or black American who might run. None running this time fit the bill.

I’d vote for a woman or a black. But not The Beast or Obama-Lama-Ding-Dong.

Have we run out of rich white guys to run for President, yet? After that, I predict anything can happen. ;)

I’d be happy to vote for Jeane Kirkpatrick,, but she isn’t a woman, or Thomas Sowell, or Walter Williams, but neither of them are African-American.

What percent of Americans are willing to vote for a liar, a huckster, and a Marxist?

I’d be more than happy to vote for Alan Keyes or Mary Matlin, but the other two could never get my vote.

Regarding the so called “Bradley effect”. I live in California and I remember that election. Bradley who was an ass, had huge numbers of whites vote for him and most all black voters.

It seems unless all whites voted for the guy whitey was still racist. Of course getting 90% plus of the black vote, that’s not racist

Regards

I can understand some people's desire for a black president but why vote for an African?

If any candidate isn't 100% American, they ought not get one vote!Down with hyphenated citizenship.

71% Willing to Vote for Woman President, 73% for African-American

I don't see a percentage or choice for those willing to vote for "the most qualified" candidate no matter who or what they are.

This election has become a joke.

Mr. Obama is 50% Caucasian, that from his mother. What those who want Mr. Obama to write history by becoming "America's first African-American president" ignore is that his father was ethnically Arabic, with only 1 relative ethnically African Negro - a maternal great-grandparent (Sen. Obama's great-great grandparent, thus the 6.25% ethnic contribution to the senator's ethnic composition.).

That means that Mr. Obama is 50% Caucasian from his mother's side. He is 43.75% Arabic, and 6.25% African Negro from his father's side.
