Charles Barkley Must Apologize For ‘Fake Christians’ Remark Or Face Suspension, Says Rev. Peterson

Former NBA star and TNT basketball analyst Charles Barkley attacked Christian conservatives Friday on CNN’s The Situation Room news show, referring to them as “fake Christians” and “hypocritical” people. Barkley has endorsed Barack Obama and has a problem with conservative Republican stances against abortion and homosexual marriage. He repeatedly told CNN anchorman Wolf Blitzer “I’m pro-choice” and “I’m for gay marriage.” Conservative radio talk show host Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson is calling on Barkley to apologize for his bigoted remarks or face pressure for TNT to suspend him.

“If a white conservative Republican commentator called liberal Christians who support Obama and Hillary ‘fake Christians’ he would be publicly repudiated by the liberal press,” said Rev. Peterson. “Barkley is getting a pass because he’s a black liberal Democrat attacking Christian conservatives. The man is a bigot and has no moral character. He should apologize for his remarks.”

Since the early 90’s Barkley has had a checkered record. In two separate incidents he was reportedly arrested and charged with assault and disorderly conduct for allegedly throwing one man through a plate-glass window and breaking another man’s nose. In 1991 he allegedly spat on a young girl in New Jersey while trying to go after a heckler. He’s also been caught on tape saying, “I hate white people.”

“I can think of at least four white public figures who have been fired or suspended for comments deemed offensive to blacks including: Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.); shock jock Don Imus; Dune “DOG” Chapman; and The Golf Channel’s Kelly Tilghman. Despite making public apologies, all these people were mercilessly hounded and excoriated by the liberal press. So, where’s the demand for an apology and suspension of Barkley for his offensive comments about Christian conservatives?” asked Rev. Peterson.

Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson is the founder and president of BOND, the Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny. He's also the host of “The Jesse Lee Peterson Radio Show.” For more information, visit www.bondinfo.org

Christians should seek no apology from Barkley. Criticism of religious persons goes back to Plato’s days and beyond. It’s part of the territory. And, for what its worth, I have met many fake christians myself.

Instead of indignant press remarks, ask Charles to amplify his remarks and be specific about his targets and reasons. His hiding behind generalizations is cowardly. Let him speak his mind, identify his targets and open himself to the proper criticism.

The good news is, all his remarks will NOT DETHRONE GOD! The Word of God will stand forever!

Yes. So we don't have to riot in the streets and threaten to behead people.

No way can they be biblically literate and support socialism. A case could be made from the early church for communism.

Act 4:32b neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.

Act 4:34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,

Act 4:35 And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.

I don't dissagree with it either. As long as it is me and my church members sharing all thing willfully. The problem is when the government mandates it.

I won’t watch anything with Barkley in it. He’s right up there with Bryant Gumball in my book.

I agree. Let him have his say.

The beauty of free speech is that it allows individuals the expose themselves for who they truly are.

Hell the guy already said “thats why I hate white people” and still works in the public eye. Let the guy speak his mind until no one takes him seriously.

The guy obviously can't control his mouth and has the maturity of a 12 year old.

He's just showing the world what kind of person he is, and it's not a very pretty picture.

The case can be made also for a communist dictatorship - within a nuclear family.

Yes, the biggest difference between the “communism” of the early church and what the left proposes is the coercive factor.

It’s funny, though, that every leftist that I’ve talked to has a big blind spot about the coercion factor, I mean they seriously can’t understand why someone wouldn’t WANT someone in power telling them how to distribute their wealth.

I think Rev. Peterson is drawing attention to this. The MSM skips things like this and he sends press releases out to let media know what is going on. There is a method to his madness. Did anyone read about this in MSM?

this goof ball keeps claiming he’s going to run for Gov but he has just a little problem - you’ve got to be a resident of the state for 7 or 8 years (can’t remember which) and he’s not! Go figure! And I can tell you, he’ll never get my vote if indeed he does run one day....I can’t stand him!

Pretty much the way I wrote it: Ask him for specific names and his baseline for “phony.”

To that I’d ask how far from ideal he is as a Christian. The point here being that the people who he is criticizing are better people than him.

They guy isn’t some genius, he is the guy who doesn’t think athletes should be role models.

Then why does he accept lucrative advertising dollars to try to convince people (including youth) which cell phone plan to use, or which shoes to wear, or anything else. If you are taking money for the express purpose of trying to influence people's behavior or decisions, you are not only a "role model" but in fact a PAID ROLE MODEL.

Its the 'Robin Hood' mentality. It so easy to give to the poor when you giving away stuff you robbed from someone else.

I have no problem giving to the people in my 'commune' because I know them and I know they really need it and aren't going to waste it. Can't say the same for some government program.

Are people in AL really waiting to elect him governor

Don't worry - when the stupid peple elect him governor and he makes a mess, our federal government will step in and bail them out - just like they did for all the stupid people who never bought insurance before Katrina or who were too stupid to evacuate. Our federal government sees its role as savior of stupid people.
