Name That Accomplishment!
Captain's Quarters ^ | Feb. 20, 2008 | by Ed Morrissey

This exchange will race through the conservative blogosphere, and probably on the pro-Hillary sites as well. Last night, Chris Matthews interviewed Texas state senator and Barack Obama supporter Kirk Watson as Obama sailed to a crushing victory in Wisconsin. Matthews asked Watson to name any significant legislative accomplishment by Obama, and the campaign surrogate got stumped:

MSNBC's Chris Matthews: "You are a big Barack supporter, right, Senator?"

State Sen. Watson: "I am. Yes, I am."

Matthews: "Well, name some of his legislative accomplishments. No, Senator, I want you to name some of Barack Obama's legislative accomplishments tonight if you can."

State Sen. Watson: "Well, you know, what I will talk about is more about what he is offering the American people right now."

Matthews: "No. No. What has he accomplished, sir? You say you support him. Sir, you have to give me his accomplishments. You've supported him for president. You are on national television. Name his legislative accomplishments, Barack Obama, sir."

State Sen. Watson: "Well, I'm not going to be able to name you specific items of legislative accomplishments."

Matthews: "Can you name any? Can you name anything he's accomplished as a Congressman?"

State Sen. Watson: "No, I'm not going to be able to do that tonight."

Matthews: "Well, that is a problem isn't it?"

It will be in November. Hope and change sound great ... for a while. At some point, the spell breaks, and people wonder how all this hope and change will morph into actual policy, and whether the candidate can actually deliver it. That usually means looking at the record to see how the candidate did so in the past, when they had the opportunity to do so.

Obama simply doesn't have any record to show. He has been in the Senate a grand total of three years, one of which he's spent running for President. He has no record of even attempting to bring any of the themes on which he's running now to the Senate for consideration as actual legislative product. Why didn't he act when he had the chance?

That will be John McCain's argument. He has a long record of taking risks in the Senate and pushing bipartisan solutions to problems. He hasn't just sat around talking about change; he's actually accomplished it, sometimes in directions that angered Republicans then and now. McCain can cast himself as the real agent of change and bipartisanship, while Obama just poses as such for an election without once taking any real risks.

Plus, McCain would probably have smarter surrogates appearing on MS-NBC.

That’s pretty good when you can sneak of your plants into an event as a reporter.

Come on, don’t let that stand in the way...he wants change...you know, change. Get on board or the change train will leave the station without you.

I want to believe this, but tend to agree with Charles Krauthamer. The Obama spell won’t break until just after his inauguration. It is only then that the American people will realize they have been spell bout into bathing in an ice cold tub which someone is about to toss a plugged-in radio into.

I was channel flipping and caught this just as CM asked the question and I paused to hear the answer, since I am just as curious just what this guy Obama has accomplished.

Nothing but SILENCE from the resonder for what seemed like an eternity! Finally, instead of listing accomplishments, the responder started off on the Obama campaign promises!

new words for the dictionary

sheeple; noun, a set of people who constitute the electoral majority of an obamanation. generally those who can be swayed by politicians that specialize in sugar-coated speeches

I wonder if his non-record of initiatives wasn’t planned. This way no one can criticize or point blame for any failed policies. All the “present” votes in the Illinois senate taking no stand against controversial issues...makes me wonder? Now we can just feel good about change.

Reminds me of a Twilight Zone from long ago where the aliens are offering a beautiful trip and life. At the end the book the aliens are carrying “To serve man” ends up being a cookbook for preparing man as a meal. Could Obama be our alien?

To funny!

There was a LONNNNGG PAUSE as Chris Matthews waited for the Senator to start listing the accomplishments...and there was nothing but SILENCE!

Given that all I’ve read on this site about Matthews is that he’s firmly in the anti-Repub camp, and a lightweight, lib etc etc, this is pretty strong stuff. I suppose it could be seen as him being firmly in the Klintoon camp, but still, them’s fightin’ words from him.

Prissy Crissy is just trying to make up for his comment about thrills in his legs when he hears Obama. Mean spirited snicker.

He’s a girlie man.

Obama is basically a save the world socialist like Carter, but without Carter’s experience even. If we don’t beat him we’re screwed.

McCain is basically an attempt of the upper management of the Republican Party to rebrand the party to compete for the same demographic as the Dims. f Mccain is elected the party will conclude they made the right choice and we’re screwed.

The Dims should be careful with this one.....

Someone might ask about Hillary’s legislative accomplishments.

Uh oh. She doesn’t have any either!

John & Ken radio show today, KFI am 640 Los Angeles, they said

“Puppies rainbows and butterflies, that is what Obama is promising! Like an 8 year old saying, Wouldn’t it be great if the world was like this!”

All it takes is a nice smile and a good slogan, and you too can be President. Anybody who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves.

The lack of accomplishments won’t matter to the dumbed-down ignoramuses who support this clown. I mean, they never accomplished anything, either.

Nor will it matter to (Oh, no! He’s touching the third rail!) that substantial portion of the American Negro population for whom race is the most important issue in the universe.
