Military Aircraft Makes Emergency Landing In Venus

VENUS – An unidentified military airplane contracted to the U.S. military made an emergency landing on C.R. 731 near the Glades County line Wednesday afternoon, according to a Highlands County Sheriff's Office official.

Lt. Ken Johnson said that he could not identify the plane or what it was doing, saying it was "of a military nature" and the details were classified, but the plane reported engine problems at approximately 2:30 p.m. while flying between undisclosed locations in the Tampa area toward Miami. No injuries or damages to the plane or any ground structures were reported.

A caller, who declined to be identified, said that the plane had print on it identifying it as belonging to the Iraqi Air Force. Johnson confirmed that the plane had that label, but said the F.B.I. and the Department of Homeland Security told him it was actually owned by the U.S. military and not by Iraq.

Hmm...wonder if we picked up one (or more) Russian jets from the pre-2003 Iraqi air force.

It’s probably one of the light planes we have given the Iraqis for surveillance.

That CR 731 is a dinky little road.

Nothing high performance landed there.

Near Avon Park Bombing Range.

Did the Venusians give the plane clearance to land?

Hope the pilot brings back pictures. I’m better on asbestos skin and one eye.

The King Air 350 ISR birds that the Iraqis are getting are being fitted for Hellfire.

If it was near a bomb range, they were probably testing prior to acceptance and delivery.

They do not really belong to Iraqi Air Force until they sign for them in Iraq, delivery is part of the contract...

Oh, King Air with long range tanks, long loiter time, IR pod and IR and CCC suites in back, Hellfires under wing...

....and you can turn off the prop sync and un-synchronize the props just a bit and people on the ground have no idea where in sky the A/C is.

I want one!

Perfect for Iraq,,, and South Bronx.

Read your bio. A squid spook. Outstanding!

(that said by an old gravel agitating trail watcher....)

Got to adjust indirect fire from the USS New Jersey once. The impact of nine 16 projectiles does tend to loosen the dental work a bit.

It's Venus FLORIDA. A few miles west and north of Lake Okeechobee.

At first I though it might be Venus Texas, which I often drive through, and which also has the CR designation for some rural roads. But the county name was wrong.

Yup.
And since it is an intel bird, they are being very closed mouth about it.
Iraq received first 1 of 24 ISR versions and first 5 of 24 light transport/training versions last month.
All are to be delivered this year.

Wish they had not decom’d the battlewagons. They always made Iran nervious when they were in the neighborhood...

BB was fun. We were up near Tuy Hoa. We shot at a stream junction right where a trail crossed it. We had spotted a group of PAVN officers di di ing down the trail. We timed the impact for the time when they would be crossing the stream.

We were about 1k away, and didn’t know who would fire for effect. We got some incredibly long time-of-flight for the rounds. When we confessed to the FDC that we didn’t know who was firing for us, they asked how far away from the impact point we were.

When we told them, they said, “Get down. Get flat. Get way down.”

We exited the area after the impact. The next day we flew over the area. The stream junction had become two streams feeding into a new small lake, and one exiting it.

That is a volkswagon thrower alright.
Lowered the ridgeline east of Beruit by four feet.
Iraqis on Kuwait’s coast tried to surrender to their RPV when it showed up because they knew what came next...

Pity that all four were part of the 250 ship reduction of the USN as the “piece dividend” in the 90s...

Avon Park AFB is near there. It’s been a bombing and gunnery range for as long as I can remember, and that’s at least 60 years.

Aircraft Carriers are great, but you are right. There is nothing like a BB off you a foreign country's shore to project strength to an enemy and support to a friend.

Teddy Roosevelt had it right.

That is a Cessna 172.
They are getting 18 for basic flight trainers.
Five already delivered and option for 10 more (total 28).
Flight Training School at Kirkuk...

Why did the article act like it was sensitive?:
“Lt. Ken Johnson said that he could not identify the plane or what it was doing, saying it was “of a military nature” and the details were classified,...”
