WASHINGTON (AP) Defense Secretary Robert Gates says the United States is prepared to share with China some of the information it has about this week's U.S. satellite shootdown.
His comments came after Beijing complained the missile strike could cause harm to outer space security and some countries.
Gates told reporters during a visit to Hawaii that the United States is prepared to share whatever it can "appropriately" share with China.
The Pentagon said earlier that debris from the obliterated satellite is being tracked over the Pacific and Atlantic oceans but appears to be too small to cause damage on Earth.

This shows to the world we can take out any missiles coming our way.
dIt also says, “You mess with our satelites and we will mess with yours.”

There is. What we will share is the time and place of the intercept...and what debris was left after impact. We will also let them know how long we belive the debris will remain in orbit. That's routine. NORAD shares information on every spaceborne object, to make sure other countries don't mistake a falling satellite for an inbound missile.
To: Pyro7480
Trajectory of the debris, perhaps? That’s “data from the shootdown” ...

Just enough information to say, look, HoChiMin what we will do to your stuff if you piss us off too bad.

LOL. No matter than Ho Chi Minh was about as Chinese as my Scots-Irish grandmother. Too funny. Perhaps using Mao or Deng Xiao Ping would have been more appropriate? They, like Ho Chi Minh, have this in common, they are all dead.

This could be a good thing. Share just enough to let them know that they won’t be successful if they try lobbing any missiles against us. Let them stew on that for a while.

The Chinese probably paid for the missle. Were not at war, but this would be potential treason. It's definitely stupidity though no question about that. Not so long ago things were kept classified such as below second deck of a carrier. I've seen things on TV that would have gotten me an M-16 slug to the head had I wanted a look see and I had considerable access due to the nature of my job.

sure, let’s tell ‘em date and time of the explosion, approximate location, that’s it, goodbye scumbags...... how’s that for “data” you POS commie hacks?
did they give us all data on their satellite destruction last year...... I didn’t think so......
Did they abide by basic international norms and decency in treatment of our ships in recent months or our airmen back in ‘01 when the downed our P3 and stole all our intel hardware etc......
I didn’t think so!! Tell the PRC’s grey party whores to F-off........ only thing I’ve ever liked about Prince Charles was when he referred to the party hacks in Beijing as an “old waxworks” or something like that.........

I would share the data, too.
- Here's a picture of a satellite in orbit. Much like any of your satellites, for example.
- Here's us knocking it out of orbit with our cool tool. You don't have one of these.
- See how little the pieces are? Teensy-Weensy. Like your... satellites could be.
Perfect except your #2 should read:
2. Here's us knocking it out of orbit with our cool tool. You won't have one of these until a Democrat is elected.

Aloha George!
Had to look up 'Double Wide'.....
I think Gates will sit down with the Chicoms and modestly say ' We've been testing our systems on prearranged targets with success. This satellite, in a decaying orbit, posed a threat and required attention. We simply responded to the situation and took it out. Of course it was traveling at 17,000 mph, much faster than that of an intercontinental ballistic missile, and at an altitude of 153 miles, higher than an ICBM's programmed flight. It was a target of opportunity.'
Then Gates will just smile for the photo op.
