Senators in Emergency Landing

WASHINGTON (AP) - Helicopters carrying three senior U.S. senators made emergency landings Thursday in the mountains of Afghanistan because of a snowstorm. Sens. John Kerry, Joseph Biden and Chuck Hagel were aboard the aircraft. No one was injured, according a statement from Kerry's office. The senators and their delegation returned to Bagram Air Base in a motor convoy, and have left for Turkey.

"After several hours, the senators were evacuated by American troops and returned overland to Bagram Air Base, and left for their next scheduled stop in Ankara, Turkey," the Kerry statement said. "Sen. Kerry thanks the American troops, who were terrific as always and who continue to do an incredible job in Afghanistan."

The lawmakers were on a trip this week that included stops in India, Turkey and Pakistan, where they observed the elections earlier this week.

Kerry and Biden are Democrats from Massachusetts and Delaware, respectively, and the Republican Hagel is from Nebraska.

Dare I say the experience will be "seared, seared" in their memories.

Amazing that no one asks, “Why the hell are Senators flying around the world on our dime?”

Sen. Flip-Flop. What he really meant to say was American troops could either work hard in school or “get stuck in Iraq.”

These a-holes should stay home, they caused these troops a lot of trouble for nothing.

Besides Kerry thinks the troops serving in this war is a bunch of dumbies that should have stayed in school.

"Sen. Kerry thanks the American troops, who were terrific as always and who continue to do an incredible job in Afghanistan."

His exact words were: "Not since the days of Jenghis Khan has a foreign army done such an incredible job on Afghanistan."

The chopper crew set up a folding table. Set out the tea service and served scones to the elite Senators. Then ran like heck to avoid the incoming!

So...Kerry, Biden & Hagel are rescued by an Afghani tribesman, who puts them on his burro and starts for the nearest U.S. base. Several times, they are met by troops in pickup trucks, but instead of stopping to offer help, they shout something in the local language and drive on. Each time this happens, the tribesman stops the burro, goes around to the back and lifts its tail. Finally, they ask what he’s doing. “I’m trying to understand it myself,” he says. “Whenever your troops pass, they shout: ‘Look at the three assholes on that burro...’”
(credit to an age-old but still satifying Aggie joke :)
