CNN ^ | 2.21.2008

Posted on 02/21/2008 3:32:30 PM PST by Semper911

"Texas is the end game. Hillary Clinton has to stop Obama in Texas. This means she has to do something to shake the race up. She has to raise doubts about Obama and get Democrats to rethink whether they really want to rally behind him," CNN senior political analyst Bill Schneider said.

Oh, this is going to be good. Hillary will be swinging for the fences, but there will be no bat in her hands.

...or will she have something up her sleeves?

Join in the pre-game show with your predictions of what her strategy will be. Here is my tip on what to watch for:

If she starts out all lovey and nice, she is begging for the VP slot. If she goes after his record (or lack thereof), he will counter with the same to point out that she hasn't done anything either.

The minute she says "for 35 years..." it's over. The debate, the election, and her chance for POTUS.

She could ask Obama to explain his Global Poverty Act. That ought to ruffle some feathers.

She will play the gender card tonight. It might work, it might not, but it will be bold.

As HL Mencken said, woman fights from a dreadnought, man from an open raft.

The one and only reason I can think of is to play a drinking game...every time the Obamessiah says "hope" or "change" take a swig.

Of course, one would probably be saused after the first 10 minutes.

Yes, and they aren’t exactly the Lincoln-Douglas debates in terms of eloquence or philosophical depth.

“Yes. we. can.”
“No. you. won’t.”
“Yuh-huh!”
“Nuh-uh!”
“Ya!”
“No wai!”
. . .

Per reports today, the Clinton campaign is some $7.5 million in debt. That does not include the $5 million she loaned the campaign herself.

==

March 4 is a red letter day.

If Clinton wins TX and OH and the nomination and the White House, we have 8 more years of Clintonitis entrenched in Washington politics.

If Clinton loses either or both, the Clinton era is basically over.

Clinton might attempt a come back in 2012, if McCain does get elected. However, without at least the Dem nomination, she would have even lesser chance in 2012 than she has had in 2008.

I suspect that Hillary will not be putting on her lipstick. They just said on CNN that they’ll be speaking at podiums which probably means you have a more fierce debate than when they’re sitting down.

She's gonna use this: "I am not going to exploit for political purposes my opponent's youth and inexperience."

Or, maybe she's just going to stand there and smile and wonder when the wheels started coming off the bus of inevitability.

I don't plan on watching, I'll just check in here from time to time.

CNN MSPlayer feed says Debate Coverage begins 7:00 PM ET.

CNN cable indicates debate will start in 1 hour, 13 minutes [7:00 p.m. CT].

8:00 ET/7:00CT should be the correct time.

If Clinton wins TX and OH and the nomination and the White House

Interesting, isn't it, how it has come down to this. She must be absolutely furious.

All her years of arrogance go down in flames tonight. Because I believe the March 4 primaries will hinge on what the media will be saying about her this weekend. And what she does tonight will determine that.

"How many times have these two already debated?"

I read somewhere, can't remember where or I'd link it, that Hillary actually wanted to do a debate a week with Obama. I think she considers the debates her strong point. We'll see.

A PMSNBC mouth stated on TV this afternoon that 48,000 people were still trying to get tickets for the really big shew tonight, but only a couple hundred were available.....so the venue had a lottery on the internet.

Don't underestimate the enthusiasm that the Dems have for the Messiah. They are flocking to him in droves.

I look for a loud and restless Barock 'n roll crowd tonight. He will look all loosey-goosey, confident and flushed with his successes. She will be steely and prepared.

I wouldn't miss this for the world.

Its very hard to even an attack line for HRC. She can’t hit Obama on drug use or corruption because they all boomerang. She can’t co-opt the change argument and she can’t out speechify him.

I wonder if she shouldn’t just go for broke and go to the RIGHT of Obama, especially for Ohio and Texas. The only thing I can think of to dent the Independent tide Obama has is to point out the Socialism angle, give up on the far left whackos and see if she can win Ohio and Texas, and squeak by in PA. I truly don’t think many independents realize just how Left Obama is. Sure Hillary is too, but it has never bothered the Clintons to do some dancing on principle beliefs.

Sure it probably won’t work, but I can’t see even another Hail Mary type play for her.

How will they respond to Campbell Brown’s surely snarkey question about the lack of character and integrity of John McCain based on the fantastic reporting of the NYTimes paper of record today. You can bet your bottom dollar that CNN will throw a question in there tonight to attempt to diminish John McCain. Clinton won’t be able to response well, but Obama will surely say something about his great character and hope and dreams and lalalalala and Campbell will swoon.

That would play well if she were a Republican, but to liberals, the Clinton years were nirvana. Obama scores more points when he uses the end of politics as usual offense (it's less specific).

Debates and other forms of face time are always desirable to the underdog. She thinks she’s right, he’s wrong. Her handlers think she has nothing to lose, too.

Dang, I was hoping for the crime scene tape number. That's my favorite.

p.s. If she has already worn it (and been photographed in it) today, she'll change clothes for tonight.

OR, will she have the nerve to do a direct scorched earth, politics of personal destruction aimed at Obama?
