You think it is funny... that I don't have any idea what my father does for a living?

Ward... what does Ozzie do for a living?

Well, I can tell you, June... but then I'd have to kill you!

Sheesh. And I thought I was practically the only person in the world who knew that Joi Lansing existed :-)

That was one of my favorite skits of Ernie’s. Thanks for sharing. I can still remember the Dutch Master cigar commercials they did. Edie Adams, his wife used to do some of the commercials too.

I saw a Bob cummings show recently, picked it up for a dollar at target. Funniest thing I have seen in a long time

You know, they were all good shows back then. Funny, clean, with sophistcated humor. Not the vulgar humor that runs around it sports shoes and baggy pants and t’s.

I can’t think of a dog except perhaps My Mother the Car

There was TV then???

You are going to lose that one life if you keep it up, child.

Over 60 posts and nobody has yet mentioned Uncle Miltie?

In my part of the country, Milton Berle ruled Tuesday nights. You couldn't schedule anything that would interfere with watching that show on the 13" B&W roundish tube.

Sid Caesar and sidekick Imogene Coca weren't quite as popular, but their effect on future comedy/variety shows was probably greater. Take a look as the writers, guest stars and bit players on Your Show of Shbows for a who's-who of TV greats, before they were great.

Have to admit I had “impure thoughts” about the Beaver’s mom. Barbara Billingsly was a babe-o-rama! She was only in her 30’s when that was shot...seemed older (in a good way)

And here’s another vote for Dobie Gillis. (Bob Cummings’ TV nephew) Still funny 50 years later. As is Burns and Allen.
Gotta get another slam in here for I Love Lucy. Through the mists of time it is ... awful!

I loved “Leave It to Beaver” and “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet”. They helped me to know what a normal childhood was like.Mine was far from that ideal.

Same here. I KNOW where you're coming from.

I still catch LITB on TVLand and watch with nostalgia.

Me too. And what they dont show on TVLand, I catch on DVD. (Shout Factory put out a special selection of episodes of Ozzie and Harriet, even with commentary from David Nelson. And Mill Creek Entertainment put out a 100 episode set. No commentary or special extras aside from the occasional commercials from that time)

“They were all good shows back then.”
Gotta disagree here Chick.
They were mostly very, very bad with a few sterling exceptions.

"The Red Skelton Show" (1951-71) qualifies... doesn't it Klem? Klem?

Hey, Bender, you check out her Eiffel Tower... and I check out her Twin Pyramids!

As for "The Dick Van Dyke Show" (1961-66), no.

Rats, Buddy... our timing was off again!

"Charley Weaver"

Cliff Arquette...who is the grandfather of present day stars Patricia, Roseanna, and David Arquette.

Do you remember that Cliff was into carving historical figures out of wood? I remember seeing a program about the museum he had at Gettysburg. And years later on one of my many visits to Gettysburg, I visited the museum. It's now called the Soldier's National Museum, having removed Charley Weaver from the name.

I was born in 1969, but I grew up watching so many syndicated reruns of classic tv shows. And still watch them.

There's just too much to list.

The Jack Benny Show, George Burns and Gracie Allen, Make Room For Daddy, Leave it to beaver, the adventures of ozzie and harriet, I love lucy, the honeymooners, The Phil Silvers Show, The Life of riley (both the Jackie Gleason first season, and then William Bendix)
