Mitochondrial DNA studies suggest that all living humans are decended from a single group in Africa millions of years ago. This means that human populations anywhere else in the world are migrants. Now it is certain that there was an original human that migrated to what became the Americas, and that subsequently whole tribes may have migrated.
These groups were native Africans who had migrated to Asia (by most models) before migrating to the Americas. We have no way of knowing if any of the tribes encountered in Columbian times were decendents of this initial group. It is established science, however, that there were multiple waves of immigration.
The indisputable fact is that there are no "native" Americans or "aboriginal prople" anywhere (outside of Africa). Everyone came from Africa. The truth is that what we are talking about is prior claim---People have rights to land because they got there first. We can never know who got to America first, and the concept of prior claim has never held any validity in real politik. In the real world, "a people" claims land by right of might. It's how the tribes that existed in pre-Columbian times held territory and it is how it has worked ever since. I have Cherokee ancestors, for what it's worth
