By the way:

A) I don't trust you.

B) Neither character nor degree of conservatism in any respect are determined by Free Republic sign up date.

And besides, I encourage everyone to vote in November, and to vote for every single principled conservative on the ballot: United States Senators and Representatives, Governors, state legislators, etc.

The one candidate whom I am opposing, notwithstanding the in-name-only "(R)" after his name, is Mr. Gang of 14, Mr. AntiFreeSpeech, Mr. Amnesty, Mr. BestFriendsWithHillaryClinton, John McCain.

That quote is from nine year ago, and IIRC prolife groups have given him high scores in regards to his voting record on abortion in the Senate. McCain is moderate on many issues, but there is real evidence that in 2008 he is anything less than prolife.

Senator Sam Brownback and Congressman Chris Smith are two of the most trusted Pro-Life leaders in Congress. Their records are impeccable. They have both endorsed McCain and have stated publicly that they are confident he will appoint solid Pro-Lifers to SCOTUS.

Several other leading Pro-Lifers have said the same thing. Of course there is no guarantee but a realistic hope.

Yes, McCain is a RINO and Conservatives should hold him accountable.

But the reality is that it will either be McCain or a very wicked Democrat in the WH next year who will attempt to permanently entrench the Roe v Wade cult of death and national socialism upon us.

The choice is the RINO or the devil. I'm not happy about it but I will vote for the McCain.

But the view is slowly changing.

For instance, one of my guilty pleasures is the show “Battlestar Galactica”. There was an episode that dealt with abortion. In the end of the episode, it was banned. I was pleasantly surprised! There have been other shows that came across pro life, and it has surprised me.

I think that the younger generation knows what abortion is. The scary thing is that some of them don’t care.

Is this even an issue with conservatives any longer?

Conservatives, yes. Republicans? I'm not so sure.

I tend to disagree with many comments on this forum. I think this is the CLASSIC overplaying of the hand!!! How many times have we seen an over stepping of bounds present a backlash back past the original line?
.
I sent Obama’s stand on infanticide to a very pro abortion friend of mine. She was flabbergasted! The view of abortion in the country has been changing for the past 10 years or so and is no longer seen as a triumphant thing. It may not be distasteful as we’d like, but it is turning the corner more and more every day....IMHO

Today the GOP has abandoned its conservative roots and has become a slightly more moderate version of the Democrats. I'm all for seeing a new Conservative Party take hold on a national level; it will be bad for several years, but at least we will all be on the same page.

AMEN, my point exactly. The time has come to force the issue. Taking the easy way out (voting for McCain as the lesser of two evils) will simply accelerate conservatism's retreat from the rot of liberalism. It's time to endure some short term pain in order to achieve long term gain. It's a tough but necessary choice if we are to have a real conservative choice in government.

The "short term pain" is, at least in my opinion, inevitable at this point. There will be scant difference between a McCain presidency and a 'Rat presidency (I don't see the 'Rats having anywhere near the votes to get Hillarycare through).

So, if it's going to suck for conservatives no matter what, then we need to take this opportunity to build ourselves a new home. Reagan used conservatism to attract voters, since then the GOP has abandoned conservatism in hopes of gaining voters that we DIDN'T EVEN NEED as long as we remained true to conservatism.
