Michelle Obamas thesis: Racial divide. Institutionalized racism.
Oh brother. Michelle Obama thesis was on racial divide.
Michelle Obama's senior year thesis at Princeton University, obtained from the campaign by Politico, shows a document written by a young woman grappling with a society in which a black Princeton alumnus might only be allowed to remain "on the periphery." Read the full thesis here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4.My experiences at Princeton have made me far more aware of my blackness than ever before, the future Mrs. Obama wrote in her thesis introduction. I have found that at Princeton, no matter how liberal and open-minded some of my white professors and classmates try to be toward me, I sometimes feel like a visitor on campus; as if I really dont belong. Regardless of the circumstances underwhich I interact with whites at Princeton, it often seems as if, to them, I will always be black first and a student second.
The thesis, titled Princeton-Educated Blacks and the Black Community and written under her maiden name, Michelle LaVaughn Robinson, in 1985, has been the subject of much conjecture on the blogosphere and elsewhere in recent weeks, as it has been temporarily withdrawn from Princetons library until after this years presidential election in November. Some of the material has been written about previously, however, including a story last year in the Newark Star Ledger.
Obama writes that the path she chose by attending Princeton would likely lead to her further integration and/or assimilation into a white cultural and social structure that will only allow me to remain on the periphery of society; never becoming a full participant.
Both she and Barack are anti white racists.
Poor, Poor Michelle.
Always being held down by The Man.
If Michelle had managed to get into Princeton without racial quotas, perhaps she wouldn’t be so full of rage.
Oh my goodness! Sometimes I dont always ‘feel’ like part of the ‘in crowd’
Get over yourself honey.
Michelle is a serious leftist, just like her husband is. This just shows it’s bone-deep.
That said, I hope to God no one ever excavates any of the stupid garbage I wrote when I was 21.
I sure wish XM radio hadn’t stopped broadcasting Larry Elder’s show. I bet he’s having a field day with this one right now.
Now why would Princeton want to temporary withdraw her thesis from the library until after the election?
That has the appearance of aiding and abetting a campaign of a black, not holding a campaign back.
Elaine: "My boyfriend's black."
Waitress: "He's black?"
Elaine: "Yeah."
Darryl: "I'm black?"
Elaine: "Aren't you?"
Barack's campaign is about change. Change is good. If your order at McDonald's is $4.25 and you get 75 cents back when you offer the cashier $5, that's good. That's real change.
This is WHY she is finally proud - because her husband, a BLACK man, is running for President.
Being a member of an “Afri-centric” church and embracing its “BLACK VALUE SYSTEM” for 20 years no doubt has reinforced the victim mentality.
Michelle Obama wouldn’t have gotten into Princeton if she were white. She is one of those afirmative action types who get everything handed to them and always whine about being victims. She didn’t learn anything at Princeton so she had to write her senior thesis about the only thing she knows; complaining about being a victim of racism.
Difficult, because it’s so poorly written. Difficult , because it is so self-absorbed, so “all about me”, so “poor little me.”
Princeton is another venerable American institution in decline. I attended a mid-rank, undistinguished university. In my day, a mere 20 years before Michelle, such a sloppily-conceived, poorly written, and at times ungrammatical submission would have been rejected. I’m appalled that, in 1985, Michelle’s ramblings served as a senior thesis. At Princeton, no less. God help us.
It's a sociology paper and reads like one. Maybe if Michelle would authorize a translation from sociologese into English, and issue it in a "graphic novel" format, it would sell.
I will give her credit for capitalizing the word White--it seems to be more common to capitalize Black and leave "white" in lower case.
This is a thesis? Sounds more like a blog. You’d think Princeton would require a bit more intellectual profundity (maybe it does from some).
Just look at the current white administration. White racist Texans, and Condolezza is in one of the most important cabinet positions in the world. The Obama’s are the racists!
I see she had a hard time coming up with the minimum word count.
“In defining the concept of identification or the ability to identify with the black community, I based my definition on the premise that there is a distinctive black culture very different from white culture.”
Did she mean to say:
“My defintion of “identification” assumes a black culture distinct from white culture”
And she, like he, obviously has so many white genes. She’s obviously not going to opine on her whiteness in that segment of the society she’s in that looks down on “whiteness.” We’re not going to hear much about his “white” heritage or hers.
