As far as the guns go, I do have to register them with the State; of course, I have to do that here in Washington, too... But other than that, it's not nearly as repressive as most FReepers seem to believe.

HUH???? Kinda goes directly against what their dear leader say's below. BTW: Hows that freedom of religion and people allowing to critizise the Chinese gov't going right now in Tibet??

China reiterates stance on gun control By Zhu Zhe (China Daily) Updated: 2007-04-21 08:58

Public Security Ministry spokesman Wu Heping on Friday said China would maintain strict controls on guns, while responding to the deadly rampage at a US university on Monday. "I would like to express my deep sympathy and condolences to the victims of the tragedy in the United States, which claimed the lives of many young students," Wu told China Daily. Police destroy 30,000 replica guns confiscated from smugglers on Friday in Shanghai. Wu said the tragedy also throws into focus gun ownership in China. He said strict controls had helped China avoid a US-style "gun culture", and the rampage had proved that it's necessary to maintain this policy. US media reported that more than 30,000 people die from gunshot wounds in the country annually and there are more guns in private hands than in any other country. However in China, gun crime is rare, as private citizens are forbidden from owning and selling guns. Wu said the ban aims to wipe out potential danger and protect the safety of every individual citizen. "If there's no access to the weapon, people cannot commit a gun crime," he said.

Speech? Free and open; you'll read opinion columns and letters criticizing the government. In fact, many of those same columns are posted here on FR! Being critical of the government does not gain you a bullet in the head - China's opening up.

Religion? I'm a regular attender of the Hengshan Community Church in Shanghai, when I'm in China. Openly evangelical, Biblically sound (I'm a Free Methodist here in the US - a very conservative branch of Methodism), and unflinchingly honest about God, man, and society. And considering the number of open and active Buddhist temples (and mosques, and other churches), religion has a STRONG position inside China.

Hey pugent hows that freedom to critizise the gov't and freedom of religion going right now in China with Tibet Looks like they are clamping down on the Olympic althletes so they don;t critizise the chinese gov't during the olympics.

PGS So I read where you wnat to sell your company in China within 5 years and retire to an island in the Phillapeans while still having a house in China. Get your's while you can I guess. Typical free trader mantra today. Screw the workers in America. You want to sell your products to Americans but don't want to hire them. What a deal.

You are truly a "Man Without a Country".

P.S. I see where you are not giving up your US citizenship. Why is that?

China is China. It has morphed in order to make it’s tryanical government successful. And some of my fellow citizens have been very happy to help it build up it’s military.

People have been happy to live in denial, while they strengthened what is becoming a world class threat to freedom and liberty.

It’s really a sad thing to watch.

This is exactly correct. Free traders have given their allegiance to the dollar? (maybe euro would be better) and no longer have allegiance to their country-the Benedict Arnolds of our time.

Well we have bought into this for a while. We allowed these folks to make the unions the issue. Now union have their problems but Free Trade is responsible for job loss. However, people are waking up...certain free traders better get what they can while they can, the opportunities will not be their soon-thankfully.

I would like to point out that the greatest growth this country experienced was during protectionist times. However, I just advocate a level playing field...If you import than you must accept exports...for example Japan must get rid of their impediments to American car imports. Also, foreign companies must have to meet the same standards as American companies in terms of wages, benefits, pollution etc.
