No. It’s time for McCain to convince us to vote for him.

That is my position as well. Unless McCain publicly admits that McCain-Feingold and McCain-Kennedy were contrary to the Constitution and that he was wrong to have promoted them, I cannot vote for him. If an evil Democrat is elected because I failed to vote for McCain, it will not be my fault. It will be because McCain, by not publicly acknowledging the wrongness of his attacks on the Constitution, did not convince me to vote for him.

The question this thread poses is if it is time conservatives perform for McCain. What it deftly overlooks is that McCain is a top ranking US Senator and could be introducing and pushing legislation right now that would win him conservative support. The burden of proof should be on McCain, not conservatives.

McCain will do nothing of the sort because he isn't a conservatives. In fact he hates conservatives. He isn't moderate, he's an enemy of conservatives on every issue but the war and abortion.

And those who are hoping he will sign some kind of "Contract with Conservatives" where he flip flops on everything he's ever stood for, forget it. If he was able to sign such a contract honestly he wouldn't have to.

"He isn't moderate, he's an enemy of conservatives on every issue but the war and abortion."

I'm of the opinion the ONLY reason he now says he supports making the Bush tax cuts permanent is because he knows it is highly unlikely Congress will make them permanent. He's giving them lip services when he could be in the Senate making every effort to make them permanent.

It's even simpler than that. McCain has flip flopped on the tax cuts because, since he's against closing the borders, tax cuts are the only strong Republican issue he has to run on in November. If he came out against tax cuts in the general election he'd suffer a historic McGovernite defeat rather than the landslide defeat he's going to get.

The argument always boils down to, “Vote for McCain. He sucks bad, but not quite as bad as that other guy.”

Not exactly a winning bumper sticker slogan.

Let’s see... Obama: Number 1 liberal Senator, Socialist, cult leader, husband of someone who has just now become proud of the United States of America, wants medical care for everyone except babies who survived an attempt to abort them Clinton: Number 6 liberal Senator, Socialist, loves Nanny state, wife of a perjured pervert (which pervert would love to take up in his former residence, the White House) McCain: Pro-life, will be tough with the budget, probably okay for Supreme Court nominations, good with military, has a wife who loves this country. Yes, I have problems with him, but far, far less than with the first two.

In short, yes - the time is now to support McCain. With money and with time.

Oh oh, you are in trouble with the quitters here! You are way to logical for them, they thrive on emotion and negativity.

However to me your post makes a lot of sense and is the way I feel.

"Who he picks for VP will influence whether or not I vote for McCain."

No slight intended, but I had thought about that myself. I concluded it would be akin to placing a bet on a football team because of who their second string quarterback was rather than their starting quarterback. That's a bet I would never make.

I MAY, (note: MAY), support McCain with my vote.
I refuse to support the backstabber with my time or money.

Here’s a man who’s entire career has been spent “Working With The Left”

“I can work with my friends across the aisle.”

Fine. If that’s such a virtue, the sell it to me, and I promise I will vote for John McCain.

I want a list of the progress made by moderates on the following issues directly resultant from working with liberals:

1. Abortion
2. Small Government
3. Tax Issues (AMT, Marriage Penalty, Death Tax, etc.)
4. Supreme Court
5. National Defense
6. Immigration and Trade
7. Strict interpretation of the Constitution

Look, I’m willing to be convinced that working with the left is viable, and that McCain has built his entire career around it.

My view is that with McCain we get 12 to 16 years of unremittant liberalism. With a liberal in office we get 4 to 8.

Again, school’s in session, and I’m willing to learn.

Well at least we have that in common.

Read all of what I said. “My strong inkling is NO”.

For example what if McCain picked Bolton as his VP?

Will Bolton bend over for McCain like Lieberman did for Gore?

Now on the other end of the spectrum what happens if McCain picks Lieberman? For me, that solidifies my NO vote.

How long is McCain going to live? His health is not great.

So who McCain picks for VP is a factor, even if not a strong one. We are facing Obama as being our next President.
