Immigration Officials Identify Driver in Minnesota school-bus Crash That Killed 4 Kids (AP Video)

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Immigration agents say they've learned the true identity of a van driver charged in a Minnesota bus crash that killed four children.

Twenty-4-year-old Olga Marina Franco of Guatemala is accused of running a stop sign and hitting the school bus. Investigators say she gave them a fake name after last week's crash and told them she was from Mexico.

Franco is charged with four counts of criminal vehicular homicide and lesser crimes. Authorities say she claims she stopped at the sign and the bus hit her.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers say they believe Franco is an illegal immigrant.

A joint funeral for 13-year-old Jesse Javens and his 9-year-old brother Hunter was held Monday at their southwestern Minnesota school.

Another illegal. She enters this country illegally, breaks our laws, drives a vehicle without a drivers license, runs a stop sign, murders children, lies to the police about her name and where she is from, and blames the school bus for hitting her.

See, she is a victim.

The woman identified as Alianiss Nunez Morales, 23, is wheeled into her first court appearance by law enforcement officials Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at the Lyon County courthouse in Marshall, Minn. Morales, who immigration officials say is using an alias and is in the country illegally, was charged with four counts of criminal-vehicular homicide, running a stop sign and driving without a license in the Feb. 19, 2008 crash with a school bus that killed four students near Cottonwood, Minn. (AP Photo/St. Paul Pioneer Press, Jean Pieri)

In this undated photo provided by Classic Images Portrait Studio, Hunter Javens is shown. Javens, 9 was one four children killed in Minnesota's worst school bus crash in at least two decades, Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008. (AP Photo/Classic Images Portrait Studio)

I agree. How sad for the families of these children. I am so upset about the government not protecting our borders. This woman should be made an example of. Illegal immigration should be a huge issue in this election but the media are minimizing it.
I used to be a huge supporter of FoxNews but no more. Now, it is all internet. Screw them, first of all pushing Juan McCain, then minimizing illegal aliens and the impact it is having on Americans.

Is the Jenny-O turkey processing plant paying for this slime’s medical care, or is part of the perk for employing illegals the fact that they don’t get medical insurance? Inquiring minds want to know if this sleazy employer will be paying any penalty, or will it just be the taxpayers and the families, who have paid the greatest price of all, the death of their children. Wake up, America. There must be jail time for employers of illegals.

I agree. Had this been an accident involving a white police officer crashing into a school bus in Memphis (thus mostly black children on the bus) and 4 had died, I guarantee there would be protests calling for the officer’s head.

And the lack of real meaningful reaction just gives strength to John McCain and his ilk... who want to protect and encourage illegal immigration.

All I can hope is when the politicos, from dog catcher on up, showed up for the photo-op about how much "they cared", they received a well-deserved slap in the face or kick to the groin.

But the sheep simply go down to the grass and munch away blissfully. Americans don't have the balls to do what needs to be done, we deserve what we get.

That’s one helluva point you just made, but, in fairness, there are 1000’s of other cities who have shown the same apathy. You see, we are lazy and are soon to lose the Republic. After all, it wasn’t our friend, son, daughter, brother, sister, mother or father. So, we just shake our heads at the tragedy and move on to the next day, too ignorant to realize the next incident might very well involve someone we know and love.

Good thing Johnny Sutton-fong is working the area way down in Texas or he'd have the bus driver in jail strictly on the word of a lying, criminal scum.

Unregistered, unlicensed, uninsured, and undocumented. It's the only way to go.

If this were an American citizen who had no operators license, unregistered vehicle, and obviously uninsured, they'd lose their home, savings, and any other assets by being so irresponsible.

Since this is an illegal, there's no value in doing anything about it. They'd never pay fines or even show up for court. Since chasing these people down just clogs up the system, cops just don't even write them tickets anymore. My daughter goes to University of Minnesota, twin cities. The cops don't even bother enforcing tags on cars in little somalia(south side of campus). It's like all the sudden you're in some national geographic film clip when you look around.

Just a small observation....

20 years ago thousands and thousands of pro-life advocates took to the streets to bring awareness of & attention to the millions of babies being slaughtered on a daily basis, through abortion.

The nation slept.

Many of these folks went to jail, paid fines, lost jobs, homes from trumped up laws like RICO, etc, brought by Planned Parenthood.

The nation slept....it wasn't their problem.

But this was OUR line in the sand.

At the time, and I clearly remember this, we would often say to each other, someday 'they' will come for you.....for your neighbor....for your children....if you don't address and try to stop this now....

...but it will be a different line in the sand.... a different reason.... a different 'cause'...

....if you don't stop this now.

And now 'they' are here....

..now we all need to be very afraid what 'they' can do if our apathy continues, if we don't react to the continuous killing of our children by illegals through traffic violations, rape, murder, etc.

They're YOUR children now.....and mine.

Is this your line in the sand.....or not.

In my Sunday School at church, we're studying Francis Schaeffer's How Then Shall We Live....

...and it clearly identifies apathy as very prevalent before the fall of the Roman Empire.

Just an observation.

To all of this, add: And her wheelchair and medical care were undoubtedly provided at the expense of the American taxpayer, but the families of the deceased children had to pay for the funeral out of their own pockets.

Estimates vary but may be around $10,000.00 per funeral or more.

My question is how many children on this particular bus would have been alive and not injured, or less seriously injured, if they had had been wearing seat belts?

Not long ago a school bus skidded and tumbled off a freeway overpass and landed upside down. I forget the number of youth killed and seriously and permanently injured. If I remember correctly the person who caused that accident was **not** an illegal alien.

Accidents happen. Possibly fewer would happen if there were fewer illegals, that is true. However, there are 17,000 emergency room admission of children injury in or by school buses every year. This means children are unnecessarily injured on school buses nearly **every** school day.

From all that I have read about school bus design, side impact crashes and roll overs have **never** been tested using seat belts. Never! All testing of seat belts in school buses has been done **only** for direct front end collisions, yet front end collisions are the least likely type of accident to occur. Also, the seats used in these tests were several inches taller than are found on actual buses.

In roll over and side impact collisions the children are **not** protected by “compartmentalization” provided by seats. Children are thrown from their seats. They strike other children and objects inside the bus. When children fall on top of other children, the children underneath are crushed and smothered.

It is known that 17,0000 children are admitted to emergency hospital rooms for school bus injuries every year. Unknown are the injuries that are treated in private medical and dental offices, at home, and by school nurses. Also, unknown is the sexual abuse and harassment, and bullying that occurs on school buses.

School authorities will state that children are safer per mile in a school bus than in a car, however, this is a bogus statistic.

The unknown statistic is the chance of a child being injured in a car, in a proper seat restraint, driven by a parent for the sole purpose of going to and from the school. One thing is certain, that if a parent drives their child to and from school, the time and distance on the road ( the “per mile” factor) is less! Reduced time and distance on the road will reduce their particular child’s likelihood of being injured. If this stat is known I doubt that it will receive much publicity since it would likely make ride a school look a dangerous as it really is!

There are several design changes in school buses that would save lives and reduce injury whether caused by a citizen, legal immigrant, illegal alien, bus driver, or the children themselves:

-Seat belts
-Monitors to supervise the children and assist with crossings
-Swing away bars to prevent children from crossing too close in front of the bus
-Forbidding the seating of 3 children per seat
-Adequate side arms to all seats
-Removal of all padding that is toxic and flammable in a fire
-Absolutely no standing in the aisles by children
-More roof emergency exits and side exits to aid in the evacuation of children
-Non-slippery seat coverings to prevent falling out of the seat in a sudden stop
-Video monitors improves the behavior of children on the buses and reduces injuries
-2 way communication with school authorities and police

The bus that skided of the overpass was a college bus with college kids in it. I remember because i have a nephew that goes to Bluffton Univesity. In fact it happened almost a year ago today. Charter busses do not have seatbelts and the crash was caused by driver errer and being too tired to drive. The boys were sleeping and not doing anything bad to make the driver look at them. 6 kids were killed.
About 3 dozen were hurt really bad. it was there baseball team going to florida for a game. It was a horrible time on the campus for those kids as it is real small and everybody knows everybody. As far as i know, there is no public transportaion that requires seat belts, except for planes when you ar taking off or landing. Every train i have been on didnt have a seat belt, every bus did not have one. it seems only passenger cars are made to have them.

Mexican President Felipe Calderon, who has has publicly stated his concern for the "growing harassment" and "frank persecution" of Mexicans in the United States, will make his first official visit to California Wednesday and will meet with immigrant leaders among others. Speaking to the Mexican government's migrant assistance agency in November, his comments about "persecution" appear to have been aimed at U.S. presidential candidates who voiced their desire to curb illegal immigration. He also expressed disappointment at Congress' inability to agree on an immigration reform measure. While in the Golden State, he will address the state Legislature and attend a private lunch meeting with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, and other officials. According to George Grayson, a government professor at the College of William and Mary in Virginia who specializes in Mexico, Calderon also is coming to the United States to apply political pressure on U.S. lawmakers. ---SNIP--Calderon wants his 1.4 billion in US taxpayer loot - no questions asked. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1969534/posts

The plan is designed to attract pro-business Republicans and those who backed the McCain-Kennedy amnesty bill by also increasing the number of visas issued for technical, temporary and agricultural workers."........(Excerpt) Read more at numbersusa.com

Brothers Remebered

By Rae Kruger

COTTONWOOD — Hunter Javens would have been 10 on the day of his funeral Monday at Lakeview School in Cottonwood. Hunter, along with his older brother, Jesse, 13, were killed along with Emilee Olson, 9, and Reed Stevens, 12, in a school bus crash Feb. 19 on Minnesota Highway 23 near the intersection with Lyon County Road 24.

Hunter’s twin sister, Sasha, did not die in the crash and was among roughly 1,400 people at the funeral. In recognition of Sasha, and in honor of Hunter and Jesse and their spirit, the Rev. Gloria Anderson asked those roughly 1,400 people to sing “Happy Birthday” to Sasha on Monday.

“I asked (myself), ‘what I can do today to be pleasing to Jesse and Hunter?’” Anderson said.

“Hunter would want (us) to celebrate his twin sister’s birthday,” Anderson said. “Jesse would want (us) to celebrate his little sister’s birthday.”

And so the people sang the birthday song in a service to remember the lives of two brothers.

The Javens brothers were killed Feb. 19 when a van hit a school bus driven by Dennis Devereaux on the side. The bus tipped and landed on a pickup driven by James Hancock, 45, of Marshall.

The Associated Press said Monday the van driver who authorities said gave them a fake name following the fatal bus crash has been identified as a 24-year-old woman from Guatemala, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said Monday.

Olga Marina Franco Del Cid was the woman who officials allege ran a stop sign, hitting the bus, authorities said, the AP reported.

Franco had told authorities she was 23-year-old Alianiss Nunez Morales of Minneota and that she was from Mexico, the AP reported.

The woman was charged with four counts of criminal vehicular homicide Friday in Lyon County District Court.

Franco is the same or similar to the last name the woman gave in court on Friday as her aunt who lives in the Marshall area.

In days following the crash, families such as the Javenses and others have had questions, Anderson said during Monday’s funeral.

Many have asked why it happened and why the Javens boys and two other students had to die, Anderson said.

Anderson suggested several other questions the family and others could use during the coming days to help cope with the tragedy.

“We could ask why Jesse was so inquisitive,” Anderson said.

“We could ask why Hunter and Jesse were such gentlemen,” Anderson said

“Why are Hunter, Jesse and Sasha so close?”

Anderson acknowledged a gymnasium full of family and community members Monday and a filled gym on Sunday night for the prayer service and visitation.

Those folks are part of a loving family that will help care for and support the Javenses in the future, and they have shown how much they care in the days since Feb. 19, Anderson said.

Many who attended Monday’s funeral wore the Lakeview school colors of black and blue.

Various T-shirts proclaimed Lakers sports or school pride and were worn by students and adults. Even the grandmothers wore the Laker blue color.

Jesse’s teammates wore his team’s football jerseys and walked into the gym together, followed by Jesse’s coach, Ray Pederson, of Cottonwood.

Casketbearers for both Jesse and Hunter wore school colors or wrestling T-shirts. Both brothers were fans of professional wrestling.

In what may be a struggle the families are grappling with these days, Monday’s soloist sang two contrasting songs.

In “One More Day” the writer asks for just one more day and one more sunset with the one they’ve lost.

And in the other, the writer proclaims that “Soon and Very Soon” we will be in heaven with “no more crying there.”

The funeral service for Stevens will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lakeview School.

Every politician and bureaucrat (city, county, state, and federal) that has been soft on illegal immigration is responsible for these senseless deaths!

Refuse to buy Jennie-O crap from now on. The states need to get serious about employment of illegals, as they have in Arizona and Oklahoma.

That’s what I’ve been saying too. The cost of American labor is double or triple that of illegals once you add in FIT, FICA, FUTA, SUTA, health insurance, and pesky regulations from OSHA, EEOC and other alphabet agencies that the aliens won’t report to but Americans can and will. We are cutting off our own oxygen with legal strangulation.

The accident that I was referring to was a government school bus taking high school students to a vocational education program.

It was very sad.
