I missed the train today...again. The nitwit in front of our car let out her husband at the stop sign instead of making her way through the three-way stop and across the tracks. By the time they finished their goodbye, the brief window of opportunity to pass through the intersection had passed and the gates were down. This happens for a combination of reasons.
One reason this happens is because the train I ride is so long that the crossing gates are triggered well before it arrives. The second reason is that another train, heading in the opposite direction, always arrives 5 to 7 minutes before my train and triggers the gates. Traffic lines up, this train slowly backs up so the gates will be triggered to go up, they go up for about a minute to a minute and a half, and go back down when my train appears in the distance. Damn! Pedestrians pay a $250.00 fine for crossing the tracks when the gates are down. Is it any wonder, though, why so man try and make their way to the other side? I see my friends waving at me through the doors of the 3rd vestibule as the train moves past me.

Probably going to have to start leaving a little earlier.
Alas, if you were only faster than a locomotive.
File under “I would rather whine than plan ahead”.
Could be worse -- you could end up dead like KDoe:
"witnesses saw him duck under the railroad crossing arms at Springlake Drive, apparently oblivious to the Amtrak train barreling toward him at 76 mph"
Trains run on schedules. She, obviously, does not...............
Oh dear! Leave the house earlier, move to a place where you need not catch a train to work or just telecommute.
When you complain about idiots that ride trains to work, it also puts you solidly in that category.
I’m underwhelmed with this person’s level of common sense. This piece does not make her or her non-profit project appear worthy of support.
She sounds like most of the people I know, including my wife. They have everything timed down to the minute with no allowance for trains, accidents etc... Sure, I almost always get to work early, but my commute is totally stress free.
I agree on that point - I would go crazy if my day was full of “just in time” events.
And they keep on with that, even when it proves (according to this writer) to be ineffective time after time?
Is this your article? (In light of your screen name)
I read the article, and I wish I could get those few minutes of my life back.
LOL.

Last night I worried about being late for work. I was going to take the service streets because it was rush hour. Being ten minutes past my planning time I took the freeway anyhow and realized I was ten minutes early getting to work, since rush hour was on the other side of the freeway. I was lucky I got there ten minutes early, since the doors were locked. I got to work three minutes early having looked for a way into the building. I would have been seven minutes late if I had not tried to get there early in the first place.
She's not griping because she missed the train.
She's griping because a lady is talking on a cell phone in the vestibule of the train she DOES catch.
She's griping because there can't be more of her to miss the train.
She's griping because she can't work more then two jobs.
She's griping because she considers herself a superhero but has no super powers.
In other words, she’s griping because she has an Internet site to gripe on. (I have the Undead Thread for that :-).
Have a Guinness, ma’am, and hug a kitten.
I sold confusers for 40+ years and never missed an appointment and was never late for a train.
When I had an 8:00 appointment, I was in my office at 6:00.
When I lived in NYC, I was always an hour early for my first appointment and never overbooked appointments {I was a professional salesman, not an airlines booking agent}.
If you are late for a local appointment, it's your fault.
If you are dependent upon airlines for your schedule, there will be times when flights are delayed, but the client must always be appraised of your circumstances.
People will accommodate delays, but you must give them ample time to reschedule.
Anyone who moans about some else causing their schedule to be fouled, needs to re-think their approach to their own control of their life.
Every successful person that I've ever met, controlled their own time {as best they could} and respected the time of their client.
I was 3 days late once.
She didn't even understand the concept of "blizzard" then, but married me anyway.
You sold confusers? I didn’t know they were available for sale; I had to give birth to mine!
"Confusers"
My attempt at humor. When I was a computer saleguy, I often said that they confused more people than they enlightened {and still think that I may have been correct}.
I thought it might be something like that.
