A gunman fired into a crowd of children and adults at a South Los Angeles bus stop Wednesday, wounding eight, authorities said. Three girls, ages 10 to 12, and a woman were in critical condition.
The gunman ran away, and streets in the area were shut down as numerous police officers rushed in.
Ezequiel Cornejo, 23, a tire mechanic, said he heard about 10 gunshots, probably from a handgun, just after neighborhood schools let out.
"After that I saw a little girl running, she was running back to the school, she was holding her arm," he said.
The shooting occurred around 3:15 p.m. at Central and Vernon avenues. Two of the victims ran away and were found wounded outside a nearby middle school, police Officer Sara Faden said.
The critically wounded were a 10-year-old girl, an 11-year-old girl, a 12-year-old girl and a 49-year-old woman, said Fire Department spokeswoman d'Lisa Davies.
A 12-year-old girl, a 14-year-old boy and two men, ages 48 and 68, had minor injuries.
It was the second major outburst of street violence in the city in a week's span.
Gang-related shootings carried out in broad daylight in the city's northeast area on Feb. 21 led to a gunbattle in which police killed one gunman, wounded another and swarmed a neighborhood with heavily armed officers who captured a third suspect. Police said the gunbattle involved members of a notorious gang entrenched in that area for decades.

Poor South Los Angeles. The area is getting a reputation for lawlessness and violence. They should consider changing the name of the neighborhood to something with a patina of history and sociability. South Central has a nice ring.

It’s a quagmire. We should pull out now.

I live in the middle of this crap. Ever since Villaragosa became mayor the graffiti has increased beyond belief. The murder rate continues to climb and there is no end in sight.
What made us think that having a hispanic mayor would make things better?

OK. Illegal immigration has had absolutely nothing to do with LA becoming a war zone in recent years. /ignorance is bliss commentary

Was this in the same area as the drive by last week of the older man being riddled with bullets while holding the hand of a tot?
And then the drive by shooter having the nieghborhood shoot back and finally getting in a shoot out with the cops?

Well after finding out that the hispanee gangs our wearing (much to my disbelief) Rosaries (and the plastic home made kind we made at Catholic teen camp) as a way to show their colors (via the color of the beads).....
I say the youngest get into trouble have the judge give them a choice on first offense....boot camp for pre-teens or Catichism weekly until High School plus one summer at YMI Catholic teen camp.

I was in a nearby neighborhood in San Jose this afternoon. My jaw absolutely dropped open when I saw “the community” out milling about the streets during the day..a freakin ghetto. Very disturbing that we stood by and let this happen.

My great-grandfather lived in Europe. So did my grandfather. Hmmm, come to think of it, so did both of my parents until they came here. So if anyone thinks being white means I have "sins" to answer for to Black America, they can kindly b*te me.

Yep. The barbarians are already through the gates, while the empire sleeps through the "Bread and Circuses" phase of its final chapter.
BTW, I have nothing against controlled immigration, no matter where such immigrants originate. I recall well the area around SJSU, during the late 70's and early 80's, when Asian (mostly Vietnamese) immigrants settled in and went about their business. I never had a problem there. No gangs. No crime. The Asians I met were family oriented and worked hard to establish themselves. What came afterward has been nothing less than a plague of locusts.

"They should consider changing the name" And as the gang bangers and their camp travellers move up the metrolink to the Northwest the city of Palmdale is now being referred to as Palmpton.
Gotta keep it real.

Well after finding out that the hispanic gangs our wearing (much to my disbelief) Rosaries (and the plastic home made kind we made at Catholic teen camp) as a way to show their colors (via the color of the beads).....Some Hispanic gangs have a strange atitiude towards religion. They literally cross themsleves on the way to do a drive by shooting. A few years ago they were having a Catholic church service for one of these vermin who had been shot down by other like minded vermin.
As the coffin was carried to hearse here comes the guys that shot him in the first place and shot up the coffin and the pall bearers.
