Mega-Church Pastor in Texas Backs McCain

By Elisabeth Bumiller

SAN ANTONIO — Senator John McCain got support on Wednesday from an important corner of evangelical Texas when the pastor of a San Antonio mega-church, Rev. John C. Hagee, endorsed Mr. McCain for president.

Mr. Hagee, who argues that the United States must join Israel in a preemptive, biblically prophesized military strike against Iran that will lead to the second coming of Christ, praised Mr. McCain for his pro-Israel views.

“John McCain has publicly stated his support of the state of Israel, pledging that his administration will not permit Iran to have nuclear weapons to fulfill the evil dreams of President Ahmadinejad to wipe Israel off the map,'’ Mr. Hagee said at a news conference at the Omni Hotel in San Antonio.

Mr. Hagee also praised Mr. McCain for his “solid, pro-life voting record for the past 24 years.'’

I bet the dems try to have Hagee shut down.

Only democrats are allowed to use churches for politics.

This guy sounds dangerous. Of course, I think McCain is also dangerous.

I don't suppose the author provides a source for that statement.

Ask yourself... Do you trust the NY Times to accurately interpret a statement of a Southern Christian?

“Praising” someone for their pro-Israel stance is hardly a political endorsement....

Hagee is a wacko. If I was McCain, I wouldn’t be too eager or happy to associate myself with this guy.

Either McCain, Obama or Hillary will be the next President. Only one of them is Pro-Military, Pro-Israel, and Pro-Life. McCain is disappointing in many ways, but when compared to Obama/Clinton, the choice is a no-brainer.

Oh yeah, that comes from II Hezekiah 14:20-25, right?

I don't suppose the author provides a source for that statement.

Hagee has said as much, in so many words, on several occasions. Not always with Iran as the trigger point, but always with the US playing a prominent role in it's alliance with the State of Israel.

I, for one, have never found even the most oblique Scriptural reference to America in the end times. I suspect this means that by then we will have been rendered irrelevant, one way or another...

Maybe you ought to consider the source—he has never said that. he stated what he thought would happen, but the NYT wants to paint him as some kind of nut job...

the choice is a no-brainer.

We have "no brainers" here, they attack McCain on a sickening daily basis. I hope they are happy with the alternative.

Hagee should know that Torah states that ALL nations will turn against Israel in acharit hayamim (end of days - end times), and that would include America.

He should pay attention to Isaiah 17 though. That seems to have have more of a chance of coming to pass in our lifetimes.

Maybe you want to read Hagee's own book before you discount the Time's reporting.

BTW, I don't trust the Times and I have my concerns about "magapastors", Southern or otherwise.

Tell you the truth, Dylan Schrader has his problem in predictions. Before I threw rocks at Hagee, I would learn a little more.

Personally, I never understood the facination that ‘absolute predestinationalists’ with politics.

If the nation is going to hell, the world is doomed and God is in absolute control, why bother?

(But that is for another discussion...)

If only he was also Pro-Constitution and Pro-U.S. Citizen I would feel much better.

Is Mr. Hagee simply announcing his personal support for McCain as an individual? Or is his church making a political endorsement?
