Election '08: After revealing she had never been "really proud of my country," Michelle Obama damns business as "the money-making industry." By contrast, she says, the Obamas are in "the helping industry." Bad omen.
"Become teachers," she counseled. "Work for the community. Be social workers. Be a nurse. Those are the careers that we need, and we're encouraging our young people to do that. But if you make that choice, as we did, to move out of the moneymaking industry into the helping industry, then your salaries respond."
No disrespect to teachers and nurses, but there are problems with those remarks.
First, when she says "move out of the moneymaking industry into the helping industry," she speaks volumes. Apparently, well-paid people in all kinds of profitable fields are, in the Obama worldview, just idle, scheming splinter-collectors who help only themselves.
On the other hand, the social workers who make sure the cash flows from the various elements of the massive government bureaucracy are the great and noble helpers.
However, the oil CEO who invests billions of dollars of his firm's profits in the research and development of new technologies that bring hitherto unreachable deposits of fuel to the cars and homes of millions of Americans is very much in "the helping industry."

Spot on. I can only hope that she becomes even more comfortable on the campaign trail so she espouses more of her real opinions that she otherwise keeps guarded. I suspect she has many more socialist tendencies.

I’ll just say that on the Political Compass website, I come out only a few ticks to the immediate left of Milton Friedman. Needless to say, I’m scared to think what will happen if the Obamas get in the White House.

Wonder where this genius thinks tax money comes from? She surely has a big mouth and thinks she is superior to her audiences. After all, she intimates that she was so noble for settling for a public hospital administrator’s pay of a mere $350,000, taxpayer money of course, instead of making the really big bucks that she could have been making in “the money industry.”
Obama will have to hide her in the general election, as Hillary is hiding Bill in the backwater towns during these primaries. Neither of these candidates showed good judgment in picking spouses.

You know what? The folks in the “money-making” industry that made my car, computer, TV, and home, brought a wide variety of healthy and tasty foods to my market, produced my medication, devised the technology to keep me warm in the winter, cold in the summer, wet when I’m thirsty and clean when I would be dirty (thank you, plumbers) have done far, FAR more to help me than any loser liberal social worker.
And I agree with the premise of the article. These folks are out and out socialists if not communists. They will most certainly try to usher in even higher taxes and more regulations to squash those evil “money-making” producers. They most certainly will help...grow the entitlement mentality. I think Republicans need to work to get Michelle off the campaign trail and get her a talk show of her own, three hours a day, five days a week. She could then espouse her views on all subjects, plus take calls and share her wisdom with on any subject a caller might be interested in.
Republicans should be willing to finance it for several months since these lib shows never pay for themselves. But she might be an exception to that.
