Tonight, a mom is grieving after police say the person who was supposed to be taking care of her child may have caused his death.
Ethan Gibbs would've celebrated his second birthday at the end of March.
On Wednesday, his mom says she dropped him off at his baby sitter's apartment, but the baby sitter left Ethan with the man who police say severely beat the little boy.
WBTV's Michael Handy sat down with Ethan's mom who says she blames herself more than anything. -------- "He didn't kill my son, he tortured my son," said Amanda Gibbs, who is the boy's mother.
Pictures taken inside Carolinas Medical Center show the last few moments of Ethan Gibbs life. "Got my son in my arms and my son was so lifeless, couldn't breathe, he was like a little rag doll," Gibbs said.
It's hard to imagine that anyone could be so vicious with a boy who was about to celebrate his second birthday.
Gibbs said, "His whole side of his face here his ear was just as black as your coat with red places all over his head." She added, "And this part of his arm... was broken in two, not fractured, but broken in two."
Police say Armando Martinez is responsible for all those injuries and soon he'll be charged with second degree murder.
Gibbs said, "to my understanding, he had got angry because my son had thrown up on his clothes."
It all happened inside the apartment where Ethan was staying with his babysitter.
Gibbs said, "I trusted this woman with my son and when I trusted this woman with my son, she left my son with somebody else that I barely even knew."
Ethan's mom says Martinez is the babysitter's brother and police think he could be an illegal immigrant. "I have nothing against Hispanics, Hispanics are in my family, and I love my family dearly, but a lot of these Hispanics come over here illegally." She said, "And they can come over here and do whatever the heck they want to do."
She lamented, "I feel like it's my fault, because I left my son there. Now I ain't got my son to hold and I ain't got my son to love on and I don't have him here to give him a birthday party and I never will again."
Ethan also leaves behind a brother and sister who are still too young to understand.

Bear in mind that the VAST majority of people who left their homes, were willing to forge documents, pay coyotes to get them across the border, and many left unpaid debts, unserved jail terms, and YOU DON’T know really what their real name is, date of birth, or if they left a wife in Mexico. I have 14 documented illegals who left my colony, half of them fled jail sentences, half abandoned families, and 2 instances running away from murder. And with the same breath, we get a lot of USA riff raff, trash here in Mexico of people running away from the law. Some of the systems are broken, but you really do want to document with finger prints, maybe DNA samples, people crossing your borders, making it easier for the GOOD people to go to the USA, and making it harder for the BAD people so that they can’t get across... yeah. That pissed me off, also.
I have called ICE, STL County, Florissant and Hazelwood Police numerous times. Once I called on my cell from QT, and waited. They towed the truck, it wasnt legal, no insurance, and no permits. The cops made them dump 40oz bottles out, and when the tow truck pulled awy, so did the police...empty. The illegals just walked back to the apartment complex and probably have a new truck by now, bought and registered with a stolen identity. Enough is enough, we are getting overrun here in North STL county..

Yes, that surprises me, it makes wonder where they are living. You cant swing a cat without hitting an illegal in an illegal vehicle around here..

I am really sorry to hear that, I don’t get up your way often anymore, but not that many years ago, I spent a lot of time in North County. Which tells me this happens fast.
(We own a lovely lot that we are looking to sell in Eureka, overlooking the Legends and the Meramec River, if you are looking to relocate.....)

Im starting to get bitter about it. Last year a drunk roofer went up on the sidewalk and killed a kid in the neighborhood he was working in. The guys in the truck all split except the driver who didnt get out in time. He was collared, and when it was discovered he had an immigration detainer on him, they didnt file manslaughter charges, they notified the feds and waited for them to pick him up. When they hadnt picked him up in three days, the county sprung him. He is in the wind now. And one of the most wanted in this field office. I grow weary of people who chide me for wanting them all out..

Starting to feel like living in a war zone waiting for our number to come up. Unlike our soldiers, we aren’t even allowed to fight back.
There is a need RIGHT NOW to stop all immigration from any country that has its citizens here illegally and condones this illegality.
There are plenty of places around the world to get immigrants. If we are going to pursue this nutty population explosion here the least we could do is share the freakin wealth.

Sir (I hope you are a Sir) I too am beginning to become bitter for I too recongnize the threat....but I know not what to do either....more Citizens are going to die, but the lady having left the child had to know something was not right....not all illegals are violent....but I agree all illegals are criminals, just as was said....truth is I hope the tide has turned and soon America will rid herself of these people, who refuse and refused to obey this nation’s law(s)....but I doubt it will be soon enough....but again this lady, who left the child behind, should have known better....mho
And some people wonder why people are becoming outraged over this government sponsored violent invasion.
