There won't be any America after this FRiend. We survived Carter, we survived Clinton, we can survive a couple years of Obama. Now, if the Republicans had been grooming a nice young conservative to take over (Bush should have put Cheney in a Cabinet position, Secretary of State would have been good), and raised a youthful protege like his daddy did with Dan Quayle, then we wouldn't have to have fought over Rudy McRomney.
Sometimes you have to go through a Carter in order to get the Reagan.

We are still dealing with the consequences of the Carter presidency...and they aren’t good ones. Not to mention if there is another Carter, unlike the first one, he will be replacing several SCOTUS members that will last far longer than just the “couple years” you mention.

Which consequences are you talking about? The Panama Canal? OK, it was tough to give it up, but I can't see where it hurt us thirty years down the line. Fundy muzzie takeover in Iran? Yes, the ayatollahs are still in power, but right now, we surround them. And if they were unleashed, they'd just go to war with Sunnis. Which is what Ronald Reagan engineered to keep both of them off our backs.
Look, a Rat presidency will be tough, but you're kidding yourself if you think a Juan McCain one won't be. At this point, a liberal Senator is going to walk into the White House for the first time since 1961, and there's nothing we can do about that. But we can think about what outcomes hasten the speed at which the conservative wing of the Republican Party puts adults in charge again. Or, we can just play the frog-boil game, and keep getting worse and worse liberals from our party elected to office, just to disappoint or threaten us.
Maybe you've forgiven and forgotten shamnesty, I haven't.

Maybe you've forgiven and forgotten shamnesty, I haven't. Yes, Reagan did mess up on that when he signed it in to law - but there's nothing that can be done about that now - it's time to move on.

I believe Ronald Reagan actually thought the enforcement provisions of that law would be fulfilled, it was his successors in office, especially the current one who have ignored them. There was a big difference in allowing a couple of million illegals amnesty, and legalizing 20 million fence-jumpers who engage in massive amounts of identity fraud. Reagan's amnesty is not McCain-GWB's amnesty.
