reuters / Ya Libnan ^

Posted on 03/01/2008 9:59:40 AM PST by maquiladora

Saudi Arabia Saturday called on its nationals living in Lebanon to leave the country immediately, a Lebanese television report said.

Future Television, privately owned by Saad Hariri who heads the majority anti-Syrian bloc in parliament, said Saudi Arabia had advised its nationals to leave Lebanon 'as soon as possible.'

There was no one available at the Saudi embassy to comment on the report.

Debka is of the opinon that... "this unprecedented order from the royal court in Riyadh on March 1 portends an unusual military outbreak in Lebanon."

This together with the unusual and unexpected movement of US warships into the region paints an ominous picture.

I don’t think Israel is going to pussy foot around with the Syrians/Hezballah this time around, and if Hezballah starts something in Gaza or on the West Bank, look out because the gloves will be off.

The U.S. has pulled in some ships to the region. Some intel must have been discovered that reveals something big is about to take place.

Now with the Saudis pulling out, something is afoot.

Its hard to know whats causing all this. It could be that the Syrians are planning on moving into Lebanon. It could be that Hezbollah is planning something major against Israel and the Saudis want their people out of there before the Israeli retaliation, or it could be something else...who knows...but something is up.

From a blog :

Saudi Embassy in Beirut asks nationals to leave Lebanon ASAP!

... and this is beyond mere "cautionary measures." Hariri folks are saying that Syria will move shortly to say that the "Arab Intelligence services" inculpated in Mughnieh's assassination is the SAUDI one ...?!

Eyewitnesses report that buses hired by the Embassy are going door-to-door and fastracks are set up at the Airport ... Le Deluge!

DPA has just broken with this :

Kuwaiti citizens living in Lebanon received urgent messages on their mobiles saying that "all Kuwaiti citizens are asked to evacuate Lebanon as soon as possible."

Something is definitely imminent.

But now the Kuwaitis have done the exact same, which indicates this is something broader than just a Syria v Saudi issue.

The current travel warning from Department of State says : "The Department of State urges U.S. citizens to defer travel to Lebanon, and that U.S. citizens already in Lebanon carefully consider the risks of remaining."

The fact that the USS Nasseu, USS Ashland & USS Nashville are being sent near Lebanese waters might indicate they might be used for evac operations.

There is also the chance that the US itself is planning on taking military action in the region and wants to telegraph its intentions as little as possible.

I just posed this article earlier today...

...An even more ominous outburst came from Iranian Armed Forces Chief Hassan Firouzabadi, who said in a similar letter to the Hizbullah leader that the Lebanese militia would soon deploy "radiation therapy" to wipe out Israel. Officials in Jerusalem worried that this might be a thinly veiled indication that field nuclear warheads are now stationed in Hizbullah dominated portions of Lebanon, probably under direct Iranian control. Hundreds of elite Iranian Revolutionary Guards are thought to be clandestinely stationed in the fractured country.

Holy Moly, this is serious. I would think we'd have more resources on the way if that were true.

I noticed the Ospreys on the ships on the way to Lebanon. Ospreys are used for 'landing' Marines.

I did see that picture of a lone Osprey on the deck, but the interesting thing is that the Marines didn’t actually go with Nassau Strike Group due to a change of plan that has bewildered a lot of bloggers a couple for a while even before these events. Thats why people are thinking they will be used for evac operations now.

"...who knows...but something is up."

Pure speculation, but here it is. Bush's Saudi cronies don't see Obama coming to their aid if the Iran-Syria alliance makes a move on Saudi interests. Neither does Israel see Obama coming to their aid should Iran start lobbing nukes at it. And, the Saudis, Israelis, and Bush internationalists see Obama beating the geriatric this year. What to do. What to do.

Start a war and preempt their enemies. It'll be over in a day. Call me a cynic, but I predicted Hillary would be thrown to the wolves a year ago.

Did you happen to see The Washington Post today?!.....

The United States and Saudi Arabia have launched a joint campaign to pressure Syria to end its political interference in Lebanon, including the U.S. deployment of the USS Cole and two other warships off the Lebanese coast, according to U.S. and Arab officials.

President Bush and King Abdullah first discussed a joint effort on Syria during the president's trip to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in January. Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal then discussed details at a White House meeting on Feb. 15 attended by Bush, Vice President Cheney, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and national security adviser Stephen J. Hadley, according to U.S. and Arab officials.

The proposal led to serious debate within the administration, which held back its plan from key European and Arab allies, the officials said.
