McClintock Congressional Announcement
McClintock for Congress Email | March 1, 2008 | Tom McClintock

Posted on 03/01/2008 11:49:04 AM PST by calif_reaganite

Dear E-Team:

THANK YOU for your outpouring of support and encouragement in response to my consideration of a congressional candidacy. I am deeply grateful for the generosity and kind wishes that so many have expressed.

The polling from the 4th Congressional district has been overwhelming. As you may know, a conservative advocacy group commissioned a poll at the beginning of this month and it reported that I would begin the campaign with a 33-point lead over the nearest rival. I subsequently commissioned a full benchmark poll by a different firm that reported a margin of 38 points.

And so, I will be announcing my intentions at 10AM on Tuesday, March 4th at Auburn's Historic Courthouse (101 Maple Street, Auburn). I would be honored to have you join me for this announcement.

Despite this very sizeable lead, I must first defeat a liberal millionaire to represent this solidly conservative district. He has already vowed in the press that he will immediately unleash a $500,000 advertising blitz if I dare to challenge him.

You have stood with me through many challenges and I need your help to start this campaign on a strong note. Will you make an urgently needed contribution so that we will have the resources necessary to counter his promised media buy? Federal law limits contributions to $2,300 per individual and corporate contributions are prohibited. You may contribute securely on our website or mail checks to:

McClintock for Congress
c/o Igor Birman
1029 K Street, Suite 44
Sacramento CA 95814

Thank you again for your enthusiastic and early support. This campaign will determine whether a consistent conservative will represent this district in Congress, and I intend to fight vigorously for that goal. After all, we will not be able to take back the Congress until we first take back our party. I have been fortunate and honored to have supporters like you at my side in times like these and will do the very best I can to be worthy of your confidence.

Best wishes,
Tom McClintock

It would be Governor McClintock if I had my way during the recall election.

Better that he just go into the business sector; his contribution’s been made, and it’s time for a young business world conservative to step in for a term or two and do the same. He’s already been a career politician for many years, and that’s the sort of thing that’s destroying the GOP. His support of Schnitzelbender was a first, disturbing sign of that.

Moving up to Congress now means the only way out for Tom is through extreme old age, which ties up his seat for too many years. And every extra year spent in DC is a year closer to the corruption that seeps into all of them in congress after too long.

Go Tom Go!! We need hundreds more like Tom McClintock. Tom doesn’t shy away from telling it like it is; a trait missing in the GOP. GOP leadership suffers from a severe lack of gonads and no testosterone. How tragic for this nation that RINO’s have spent the last seven years sucking up to Liberals at the expense of our future and our security.

BTW, who is running in ‘08 to replace McClintock for his state senate seat, and are any of these candidates truly decent conservatives just like McClintock?

Your posted reply had me nodding my head after each sentence! By the way... I'm wondering if Tom's own CONgressional District contains any Indian Gaming Casinos. Dist 4 contains several I believe and I'm wondering if that has influenced Tom's decision.

I like Tom, but I won't be sending any money or cheering him on the steps of the courthouse, even though it's within walking distance from my office. Like you, I think he could better steel himself for the future of CA and his future with a refresher in the private sector and not as a lobbyist, but as an entrepreneur.

Even an enterprise in the Media like Reagan nailed down would be good. like killing two birds with the same stone.

This saddens me because I was so looking forward to a battle royal between multi-millionaire Ose and millionaire Oller, a righteous, take no prisoners, conservative!!!

As far as I'm concerned, the road to the big horseshoe in Sacramento's Crapitol is usually not followed through the Washington Beltway swamp and sesspool!!! They'll just Delay & Doolittle McClintock in that miserable place!!!

For one, the 4th CD does not include any part of Sacramento city or county.

That said, Sacramento is about even Dem-Rep. The city is heavily liberals, but the outlying Sacramento County is Republican. The foothills and rural counties which make up the 4th and 3rd CDs are extremely conservative.

And...The most honest person I’ve ever backed!

Along the same lines as Duncan Hunter!

Liberal Democrats still hate him, so that’s a good sign. Not a day goes by when some issue advocacy group is not running extremely negative ads against him. Not just now during election year, but pretty much all year round.

To: calcowgirl

I answered. He is doing the best he can do with the state that is ruled by Liberals.

All I see is that every negative ad that is run against him has tons of victims and people with sad faces who are crying about CRUELTY displayed by the Governor in cutting away their particular program.

Still a huge deficit, but without him we would definitely be bankrupted at this point.

I give him B.

From your post, I conclude you do not follow California politics and the actions of our governor.

Thanks for your response.

Who is this McClintock? Why is he so popular on FR?

Tom McClintock is a strong-libertarian-leaning Republican state senator, and before that a state assemblyman. He is far and away the most principled politician in California, and probably also the smartest. His speeches often turn into (brilliant) lectures on the Founding Fathers and the Constitution and the need for limited government.

Tom has been raising the alarm for years about California's disastrous fiscal and regulatory policies, and he has an encyclopedic knowledge of budgetary matters. Nor does he just speak in generalities; he proposes billions of dollars in specific budget cuts, agency cuts, privatization alternatives, etc. He doesn't hesitate to criticize Republicans as well as Democrats if they try to hike taxes or spending.

I've been lucky to be one of his constituents here in Simi Valley, but he'll be termed out of office this year. So I am very pleased that he'll be running for Congress (and almost certainly winning). He's done as much as he can in state government, and unfortunately the voters in California have not been willing to elect him to a statewide office. Perhaps he can make some waves at the national level.

Small correction:

He's done as much as he can in state government, and unfortunately, the leadership of the California Republican Party has been unwilling to fully support him financially or logistically in his attempts at statewide office.
