NYT ^ | March 1, 2008 | CHRISTINE HAUSER

Posted on 03/01/2008 4:36:59 PM PST by happinesswithoutpeace

A Queens livery driver who had become something of a hero, after he took to a firehouse a baby girl that he said had been abandoned in his cab, was arrested on Saturday after his story unraveled, the police said.

A man and a woman were also arrested.

Notice that nowhere in the Times’ story is there mention of the immigration status of any of the “participants”, which only continues to prove that this “respectable rag” is nothing but a pro-lawbreaker, anti-America rag.

At least the little girl is alive. Have her adopted by some decent people, and spit the rest of the participants out.

The child's mother is underage, is not facing charges, and in the custody of Children's Services. Lots more to this story...

And get the mother into custody, too, if she’s really young, before she has another baby that ends up who-knows-where.

As long as the child was taken to a safe location, the last thing I care about is prosecuting the people who took her there. Save the time, money and effort for prosecuting people who injure or kill little children.

Investigators said the baby’s father had also taken part in the scheme.
Umm..is half the story missing? What exactly is the scheme?

There are laws that provide immunity to parents who surrender infants....Many states have them.

I’m glad they surrendered the baby instead of tossing her away.

Childs mother needs protection too.

In some states, the law specifies “within a week of birth” or some other time limit. This girl is six months old. Whatever, she’s alive and well. Get her placed with loving parents, permanently! It’s not like there aren’t hundreds of married couples waiting to adopt.

Thank you. I’d take the little girl myself, in a minute.

Full agreement....

At least they had enough respect for her to let her live.

Yes, and from the picture at the link, she’s clearly been fed and cared for. Fat cheeks :-). Thank God.

This was quite an odd story. It started when a cab driver showed up at a fire station with an infant in the car and claimed that some guy had left it in the back seat and fled the scene (I think the original report was that the passenger had asked the driver to pull over at a pay phone, then fled on foot).

It turns out everyone involved in the case knew each other, and the speculation is that the whole story was concocted -- probably to avoid having the father face criminal charged for statutory rape (the mother of the baby is only 14 years old).

So, there is a too-young mother, apparently without family support? - a father working his butt off to try and keep his job, neighboring women who had helped out with childcare (meaning the baby wasn’t left alone) and a well-intentioned person who tried to do the right thing by leaving the baby at a ‘safe place’. I don’t see anyone who is a criminal here. Why waste time and money prosecuting any of the players in this one? Money would be better spent trying to assist the mother with education and care, and finding a home for the baby. Be glad the baby wasn’t beaten to death or thrown in a dumpster. Overwhelmed young parents have done a lot worse to kids than try to safely place them somewhere.

Exactly!
