Today I am announcing my candidacy for president of the United States. It's a little late in the game, but frankly, I got fed up with all those specious claims that this has been a historically diverse election. Sure, we've had a Mormon, a Baptist minister, a Catholic, and various other Christians running for president, including one who, according to some reports, has attended a Muslim madrasa. We've also had a woman candidate, candidates with poufy, pretty hair, candidates with thinning hair, candidates who were once so poor they lived in their cars (or claimed to) and candidates so rich they could blithely plunk down $40 million of their own money on their campaigns.
But this election will not truly look like America, will not transcend the petty partisan politics of the past, without a Jewish mother candidate. Yes, running for president will complicate my schedule for the next many months, but who better to make sacrifices than a Jewish mother? Therefore, I am throwing my hat into the ring. (Not the really beautiful burnt sienna floral hat - I'm saving that for taking the oath of office.)
I acknowledge that I have several disadvantages as a presidential candidate. For one, my father never worked in a steel mill. Second, I am vertically challenged, and the conventional wisdom is that the tallest candidate usually wins. This means that at this point, I could only beat Dennis Kucinich. Finally, my campaign war chest only has $312.87. But this campaign is about hope and optimism, about people shouting "Yes we can!" Well, I can shout too!

NEW YORK, Aug. 6 - The New York-based Forward magazine stepped forward with a story published on Aug. 6 which disclosed some distant Jewish family ties of Hillary Clinton, a would-be senator from New York. According to the story, Hillary’s grandmother, née Della Murray of Aurora, IL, married a Russian-born Jew, Max Rosenberg, in the 1930s. They had one child, a girl.
But claiming Hillary’s Jewish roots on the basis of that marriage is a real stretch. For, this was Della’s second marriage, well after the birth of Hillary’s mother, Dorothy Emma Howell in 1919. In other words, Rosenberg was no blood relative to Hillary. And her grandmother never converted to Judaism. But this did not stop some Jews from adopting Hillary as one of their own anyway, especially now that she is contemplating a run for the New York Senate seat vacated by Daniel Moynahan.
“Jews will now feel that she’s almost one of their own. It will make it easier for Jews to connect with her,” a New York political consultant, Hank Sheinkopf, a Democrat, told the Forward magazine. “People will feel that she’s more like them and they’ll be more likely to listen to what she has to say.”
But Mr. Sheinkopf cautioned that “professional Hillary-haters will say, ‘why didn’t she tell us sooner,’ but it won’t matter. It will help her with the Jewish voters immensely. The overall impact will be favorable.”
No offense meant to Jewish mothers, but I’ll consider supporting one after they have managed to defend their country against 24x7 rocket bombardment from their savage neighbors.
Doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Both HRC and Obama are Jewish mothers in spirit..as were all of the other Dem hopefuls before they dropped out.
And recall that John Kerry’s Jewish grandfather, Fritz Kohn, is the one who changed his name to “Fred Kerry” to hide the family’s Judiaism. I wonder how many of his constituents realize that he’s not Irish Catholic, despite this info being out there for several years.
He got caught pretending be of Irish ancestry back in Boston some years ago. >B-)

Kohn = Cohen, and is (more likely than not, some German Jews adopted that name during the Franco-Prussian war (a war they did not view as “their” war) to avoid militay service as clergy members) a Jewish surname of some repute. (They would have been temple servants and a possibly a descendant of Aaron.)
Curious that he would hide that lineage.
(Of course, he could have been a Kohn that was just a draft-dodger. Given his history, that seems more likely.)
