Why would the federal government be considering any stupid legislation like this? Be it gun shops or porn shops??

Local communities can take care of this all by themselves without the help of the federal government. It’s called zoning laws.

Even the 1000 feet under GFSA was rediculous. Between elementary, junior high, high schools, charters, parochial schools, etc., I’m sure at least 50-60% of my town of about 30 square miles is within 1000 feet of a school.

I guess inconveniencing you if you’re the type to shoot up a school but don’t plan ahead enough to buy your weapon till the day you’re going to do it?

“Right to bear arms”, spelled out in the U.S. constitution in plain English. I’m still looking for the part about public schools. It must be on the same page as the right to abort your baby, directly following the social security clause.

- Which is EXACTLY the point. It’s a backdoor way of banning YOUR right to defend yourself. Once again,”It’s for the Children...”

Remember something - while you and I are out here working to pay the bills, struggling to put our children through half-way decent private or parochial schools (as well as pay for the brainwashing of other children in the Government School system with our taxes, at gunpoint, ultimately), while we’re trying to be good, law-abiding CITIZENS with UNALIENABLE RIGHTS, these socialist vermin on the left are working 24-7-365 on ways to defraud you and strip those rights from you under the color of law. They have an ARMY of lawyers and legislatures working on the weasel-wording to make you a criminal overnight. They are working with international organizations (the UN, for one) to craft laws that restrict and ultimately abolish your rights to do ANYTHING to protect yourself.

Like they did in the Soviet Union. Like they did in National Socialist Germany. Like they did in Venezuela when the little pervert Chavez took over. Like they did in Cuba. Like they did/do in EVERY Worker’s Paradise and Utopia that they set up. Do the research. Go out to www.jpfo.org and READ what happens when CITIZENS become disarmed SUBJECTS.

Self-defense is THE MOST BASIC HUMAN RIGHT. It is a CIVIL RIGHT. It is a CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT, and these socialist scumbags are breaking the law of the land with every illegal law they pass restricting your right to keep (own, possess, retain, maintain) and bear (carry on your person or vehicle) arms (weapons, typically small arms, as in military or military-style) for personal defense.

The full faith and credit clause of the US Constitution, which EVERY DAMNED STATE IN THE UNION had to ratify (agree to abide by)guarantees your right to be armed. But they’ll tell us it only applies to homo-marriage and abortion (NOT in the Constitution) not your 2nd Amendment right (CLEARLY stated in the Constitution, as well as in almost EVERY State constitution).

That the Dems HATE the fact that we own firearms is enough for me to NEVER, EVER TRUST THEM WITH HOLDING OFFICE. If they, as public servants, do not have faith and trust in ME, as a sovereign law-abiding citizen with well-enumerated and stated-in-law rights, then they can go to hell. The contract is over. It’s treason, and nobody calls them to the carpet for it. Repubs have no balls to do it.

As far as the porn shops go, it clearly shows their prerogatives and agenda - get the young interested in sex as early as possible, use the public schools to corrupt the morals that their families try to teach them, get their minds off their history and heritage as Americans, their government, rights, and faith and any other impediment to the socialist agenda, and definitely do NOT let the young realize that they have rights that other men died for that are worth defending.

Without the 2nd Amendment to defend them, the other nine amendments are meaningless words on paper. Period.

Do not go gently...

No, Obama is pitching to women.

Irish-bull logic, lot of women won't bother to try to see through it, esp. since he is engaging their maternal instincts to make them stop thinking.

"It's for the chilllllldreeennnnnn...."

Playing human psych like a piano. He knows what he's doing, so do the Million Moms and their grabber pals. They don't give a rat's butt what the Framers wanted.

That the Dems HATE the fact that we own firearms is enough for me .....

They are stupidly chasing a pipe-dream of sweet harmony and light, and Fred Rogers gentleness and bonhomie dangled in front of them by the real gun-haters: employers and politicians, people who have reason to believe they aren't all that beloved for the way they treat people and lie to them.

They're thinking of their own safety -- they will always be well-protected, as witness former New York Mayor Ed Koch and his New York carry permit -- to the exclusion of ours. Sorry, but you can't arm yourself, you make me nervous. So what if you get robbed and shot and bleed out? The point is, your having weapons makes me nervous. Don't take your eye off the ball here -- my nervousness and shaky conscience, not your bleeding-out. Try to pay attention.

Agreed.

But those bastards who mean us and our liberties harm should know this, and know it well;
I will ALWAYS have a gun. So will MILLIONS of others just like me. If even one-third of the gun owners in this country stand up, the global one-worlders have a REAL problem.

The 2nd Amendment: By any means necessary.

I like to put it like this: if McCain can’t figure out how to beat Obama, then he’s not competent enough to be Chief Executive.

Well, he did graduate in the bottom few slots of his class at Annapolis. He also lost 3 Navy aircraft, plus two more, one definitely not his fault, the other to enemy action. So he may not actually be the most competent person in the country. He does marry well.

Hope to heck he's got good people around him...but there are problems there too, his temper.

As I assume is the case for just about everyone here, my husband and I figured out it would be impossible to have a gun shop in our small town if this was the rule. And that pertains to the schools only (not even counting the stupid park rule) because you cannot go more than 5 miles any way without leaving town.

Didn’t the Supreme Court rule a law similar to this to be unconstitutional?

Nope, they ruled that a law banning possession within such a Gun Exclusion Zone, was unconstitutional. The ruling was on the basis of a lack of Congressional power over the matter. However Congress has been regulating the *sale* of arms for a long time. The 1938 Federal Firearms Act (FFA not be confused with the 34 NFA) first required a federal license to be in the business of selling ordinary firearms.) Since it was enacted under Congress power to regulate interstate commerce, the Courts have been happy with that one. (Never mind that silly amendment a little farther down in the Constitution). This would merely be an expansion of those regulations. It could probably be done without passing a new law, just a little Executive Order to the BATFE, or just a phone call. A notice in the Federal Register, and the deed would be done.

Don’t you have to be 21 to buy a handgun in most states?

All states, it's federal law. You don't have to be 21 to possess one though. The Army and other services routinely issue them to under 21 year olds.
