Officials: Triple Murder Was Planned For Weeks (Texas teenagers kill family)
Tyler Morning Telegraph ^ | March 4, 2008 | Lauren Grover

EMORY - If 16-year-old Erin Caffey wanted to be free of her family, she seems to have received her wish.

In the small hours of Saturday morning, her boyfriend, Charlie James Wilkinson, 19, and his friend, Charles Allen Waid, 20, allegedly found Erin's parents sleeping in their bed and shot her mother, 38-year-old Penny Caffey to death and maimed her father, Terry Caffey, 41, who had forbidden Erin to date Wilkinson the night before, according to a sheriff's office report of interviews with the two young men released Monday.

This story is just too sad for words. How stupid do you have to be to think you can get away with this.

If they were in love she could have waited the couple of months until her 17th birthday and she could legally be emancipated.

I’ll bet it was not over the boyfriend as much as it was probably taking way her cell phone. I thought my daughter was going to go into a coma when we turned off her texting indefinitely after we caught her texting while driving. I told her last night it has been two weeks an she is not dead and her social life continues.

So Erin Caffey and her friend Bobbi Gale Johnson sat in a getaway car outside, while Caffey's boyfriend Charlie James Wilkinson and his friend Charles Allen Waid - who had been hired to help for $2,000 - broke into the Caffey home while the family was sleeping.

Wilkinson and Waid shot Penny Caffey to death and shot Terry Caffey to the point that they thought he was dead.

Matthew Caffey and Tyler Caffey came downstairs to investigate. Wilkinson told them to go upstairs. He then shot 13 year old Matthew in the head, then Waid and Wilkinson hacked 8 year old Tyler to death with a sword.

Then they set the house on fire and fled in the getaway car.

They stabbed the 8-year old to death with a sword, according to the police report. Then they burned the house down while the daughter sat outside in a car watching.

The death penalty would be far too nice for these individuals.

Erin Caffey is a sick, selfish demented puppy. Life in prison with no possibility of parole is the best punishment for her.

The daughter is the only one who is not eligible for the death penalty.

They will probably let the girlfriend evade the death penalty.

A couple of years from now the daughter will be on internaet dating sites and scamming expensive presents from pathetic slobs whom she tells her sob story to.

She amy even convince one of them to help her break out of prison.

The daughter chose evil...and served the master of lies.

The kids who planned and carried out these hideous, dispicable murders should all be tried as adults and themselves executed.

I believe God in Heaven saved the father to tell the tale. His poor wife and the mother of those kids. Those poor brothers. They rest with Christ Jesus now. It is a miracle that the father lived.

The callous manner in which these kids talk of what they did...just "taking care of business". IMHO, they should be sent home to their Maker so He can pass final judgement on them.

I am hoping that Wilkinson and Waid will both get the death penalty because the father survived to testify against them, thus the prosecutors may not need the testimony of one killer to secure a conviction against the other.

What a bunch of amoral whackjobs. Not wanting to wait two years to date is worth killing for? Public hangings were devised for crimes such as these.

All four were arraigned on Sunday morning and charged with three counts of capital murder each. Wilkinson, Waid, and Johnson are being held at Rains County jail on $1,500 bond each. Erin Caffey will remain at the juvenile center in Greenville and cannot be held on bond because she is a minor.

$1,500 doesn't sound like the authorities are taking this seriously. Unless this is just poor journalism.

I'm convinced it's time for public hangings once again. On Saturday afternoons in downtown areas. And stocks for lesser crimes.

Another positive outcome of the father’s survival is that it will be much harder for the daughter’s defense attorney to go with the usual: “She acted out of rage because she was molested” garbage when her wounded and crippled father will be able to testify in open court that he did no such thing.

Serial killer in the 1950s. He and his underage girlfriend got their start after killing her parents and then went on a spree.

The award-winning movie badlands was made about it and Natural Born Killers boorows heavily from that earlier movie.

That’s what I was screaming at the screen. Did they think they weren’t going to be suspects? Did they think they were going to run away and live on the lamb forever?

I was on a Grand Jury once and we indicted a lot of stupid people.

Wikipedia:

Charles Raymond Starkweather (November 24, 1938 – June 25, 1959) was a spree killer who murdered 11 victims in Nebraska and Wyoming during a road trip with his underage girlfriend Caril Ann Fugate. He became a national fascination in the USA, eventually inspiring the films The Sadist, Badlands, Starkweather, Murder in the Heartland and Natural Born Killers. He also inspired the Bruce Springsteen song "Nebraska".

Me:

Badlands starred a young Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek. 1973 film, I believe.

Famous case. Fifties, I think. Maybe early sixties. The movie Badlands, starring Sissy Spacek, Martin Sheen, and Warren Oates, is about the case.

If you want to give them the third degree, there's an easier and less messy way. Flex-tie their hands, dig a common six-foot grave, drop them in and fill the grave. They would end up in the ground anyway. This just skips the intervening steps.

I was suprised to learn that Caril Ann Fugate is still alive at age 64 and was paroled at the age of 33.

How many people in America have been an accomplice in the murders of 11 people, were convicted and have spent over 30 years on the outside?

I suspect that part of what we're seeing is:

a. Two guys who are weapons-grade stupid, and also drunk and drugged; and

b. One girl (Bobbi Johnson) who was also weapons-grade stupid, and "in love"; and

c. One girl (Erin Caffey) who was "in love" and who was stricly controlled by her boyfriend.

This Wilkinson guy is 19 and still in high school? Paper said he and the 16-year-old daughter would sneak off at school and that she had been home-schooled until recently.

Sounds like she went from being sheltered like a lamb right into the arms of wolves.

After reading the book I had trouble sleeping for weeks. Evil has existed since Cain and Abel.
