Touchy, touchy, Chris!

Palpably stung by Ken Blackwell's observation that Republicans had lost their way by running like Reagan but governing like Carter, Chris Matthews -- former speechwriter to the president from Plains -- cracked back by playing the Abramoff card and claiming Republicans are more corrupt than Dems.

Blackwell, the very impressive former Secretary of State of Ohio and past candidate for Buckeye state governor, was Matthews' guest on this evening's MSNBC election coverage. Blackwell was discussing what it would take for Republicans to win in 2008.

KEN BLACKWELL: My view is this, Chris, that we got off track. We started to campaign like Ronald Reagan and at times govern like Jimmy Carter. And as a consequence, people, people really questioned whether or not we were true to our message . . .

Ken's comment clearly cut Chris to the quick. He tried to parry.

Why hasn't this a$$hole been accidentally 'bumped' onto the rails at the Foggy Bottom Metro stop yet? Have Washingtoonians lost the few cells of testicular matter they once had (which needed an electron microscope and pictures on milk cartons to find to begin with!) before I left ten years ago? Between the fact that this piece of debris still has relevance (much less a pulse), coupled with our so-called 'movement' chosing McCain to lead us over the precipice, is more proof that this country is beyond redemption, and will disappear into the dustbin of history. How about Rezko and Obama's land deal? How is it that Harry Reid does a similar land scam and it drops down the memory hole, but Obama/Rezko is trumpeted during the primary?

If Obama wins, however, look for that one, too, to drop down the memory hole when McCain tries to bring it up. Yet they'll pounce on McCain for the Keating 5 scandal.

While the full assertion is incorrect, the ugly unshakable truth is that Republicans are far more corrupt than they should be, and they need to clean up their act.

Toward that end, the RNC needs to have the equivalent of a corporate audit staff, with the goal of proactively and preemptively eliminating the type of corruption that Abramoff, Foley, et al perpetrated.

Blackwell's remark is funny. There's a bit of truth to it.

Chris Matthews' isn't funny. It's the touch of truth that makes things funny, and there's no truth in his remark. But what would anyone expect from a man whose idea of greatness is John Kennedy? Wit? Cleverness? Intelligence? Sound judgment? No. No. No. And no.

Trot out Abramoff when the left is accused of corruption, even though he was as influential if not more so with Dems. But the left can count on “the media” to keep that part on the down-low.

When the left wants to play-act like they’re “centrist” and diverse politically they trot out Diane Sawyer, who briefly worked for Nixon. But since then she’s adopted every wacked-out, liberal wet-dream notion as her own.

When the left wants to act as the benevolent big-daddy, they simply overtax some, and give to “others.”
